since some eurovision-adjacent contest may or may not take place in the asian continent/asia-pacific region, i started to think what a worldwide version of the competition would look like, and i wanted opinions on what the forum would like to see that competition look like.
MY IDEA:
since the ebu is a member of the world broadcasting unions, with other members serving other regions of the world, i thought regional contests would occur and be headed by each of the broadcasting unions, making a total of 5 competitions:
in the case of countries like australia, azerbaijan, etc., they'd have to pick ONE competition to participate in.
the worldwide contest would occur every four years. prior to the worldwide contest, a qualifying round would occur in which the top 5 of each year (e.g. 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) + the best result of each of the "big five" or whatever equivalent for each region, if their best result isn't already there, would compete for spots in the worldwide competition, proportionate to the competition's size.
the first place entry of each qualifying round would automatically qualify to the worldwide competition's final. there is only one qualifying spot per country (e.g. robin bengtsson and john lundvik can't both qualify. only the best of the two would), so in the chance that two or more entries from one country make the top 10, the next entry form a country that doesn't have a qualifying entry is selected.
these qualifying rounds occur the january after the last competition (in this case january 2020), and the worldwide competition would occur in march-april. in europe's case, january's competitors would be:
possible winners in bold.
what do you think? how would a worldvision song contest look like to you? do you even want one?
