HWAESONNA TO INTERNALLY SELECT FOR #19
Lephidross, Hwaesonna • 03 January 2020
BEWHY TO FLY TO TORLOVA
In the previous edition hosted in Niolskiaj, local legend Sunwoo Jung-A represented Hwaesonna brining home a stellar 11th place result in the grand final. Encouraged by the performance of a song in Koran, one of Hwaesonna's national languages, FTStv has decided to continue its streak of kpop-adjacent entries, but yet still refraining from diving into idol industry itself. Following successful showings of both Alternative and Synthpop in the contest in the two recent editions, the broadcaster decided to look towards a new genre to represent the nation in Torlova. Today, at Super Friday, it was revealed that an Industrial-Hip Hop song with Chorel influences had been selected to be the country's 7th entry. Despite Hwaesonna's only non-qualification being in Estambla in the 15th edition, and the limited but promising success of the selected genre thus far in the contest, the broadcaster is confident in it's choice. Please welcome to the stage...
"I'm honored to be Hwaesonna's next representative in the Fantasia Contest. Last time in Torlova, Hwaesonna struggled. This time, we're bringing the full package. We've got the song, we've got the visuals, and we've got the will." - BewhY
Born in Lephidross to poor, devout Christian parents in 1993, BewhY spent many years struggling to make a name for himself. Throughout high school and his first years of college, he worked gigs and posted videos online of him freestyle rapping to little success. Working any gig he can find, he released his debut album, Time Travel, in 2015 to zero commercial success. In 2016, he was cast on a TV show titled "Show Me The Money" broadcasted on private station HNET that pit rappers against each other in a freestyle battle system. Joining team AOMG via an open audition for the program, he breezed through the competition eventually placing 1st. After his win, his single "The Time Goes On" from his debut album the year prior skyrocketed to #35 on the Hwaesonnan Tobliseuteuhanabaeg (Hwaesonna's top 100 singles chart), steadily climbed to #17, and would later spend a total of 18 weeks on the chart. At the time, the song was the longest charting hip-hop song in the Hwaesonnan top 50. After a string of successful singles (including "Hwegso" which peaked at #9 in Hwaesonna) BewhY's 2nd album, The Blind Star (2017), released in September and debuted at #4 on the Tobliseuteuibaeg, Hwaesonna's album 200 chart, but had little staying power and dropped to #41 the following week. In 2018, he was a main cast member on HNET's musical variety show "The Call." The show featured heavy collaboration from a cast of over a dozen musicians. Throughout the show, BewhY worked with musicians such as Crush, Chungha, Ailee, and Taemin. In the fourth week, BewhY's collaboration with Taemin, "Pinnochio," won the week and became an instant hit. The song became BewhY's first #1 on the Tobliseuteuhanabaeg, and held the spot for two weeks.
On July 25th, 2019, BewhY surprised dropped his 3rd studio album, The Movie Star, which debuted at #1 on the Hwaesonnan Album charts and enjoyed a 4 week reign at #1, before being dethroned by Sunwoo Jung-A's EP Stunning. 5 weeks later, following Stunning dropping to #2 on the album chart, The Movie Star enjoyed two more weeks atop of the chart, bringing the album's total to 6 weeks at number one, the longest a hip hop album has ever held the top of the Hwaesonnan album chart. The album enjoyed crazy Longevity in the charts, and is still charting within the top 10, ranked #9 for the chart for the week of December 30th.
"GOTTASADAE"
Lyrics By BewhY // Production By BewhY, Kwon Namwoo
BewhY will be performing the lead single from The Movie Star in Torlova, entitled "Gottasadae." The title has no direct translation, it is similar to the Koran word "가라사대" whichs roughly translates to "(someone) says." Most of BewhY's fans agree the chorus is aggresively shouting "BewhY Says," similar to the idea of "Simon says." Upon release, "Gottasadae" debuted at #2 on the Tobliseuteuhanabaeg. The song climbed and spent three weeks at number 1, and spent 12 further weeks inside of the top 10. Part of the reason the single made so many waves is in part due to the music video, which has been called "chilling," "disturbing," "brilliant," and "intimidating." The Music video is dark, and features seemingly endless references to classic films (a tie-in to the concept behind the album, The Movie Star) such as numerous Stanley Kubrick films, as well as classic horror film "American Psycho." The video seems to physically represent the chilling reality of absolute control, entitlement, and the concept of the "God Complex." The music video is the hot favorite to win the HMA Award for Best Music Video, and BewhY is expected to be nominated for numerous other categories.
A timeslot video will be provided to the council in due time // the song begins @ 0:29
FTStv, Hwaesonna, and BewhY's fans wish luck and have high hopes for BewhY in Torlova.
