Cubone didn't decide its fate yet it tries making the best out of its situation. There's more than 900 pokémon among all generations, so the line "mine is just another voice" really hits hard and literal. Also, subtle hint at pokémons being "chosen" by the player.


This implies to the deceased mother, rather the skull: Cubone always wears the skull like a helmet and never takes it off. The mother is always with Cubone, even if she does not make any sound anymore.


One of the most direct lines to describe Cubone. Quoting the wiki, "When it becomes lonesome, it is said to cry loudly. Its cries echo within the skull and it comes out as a pained and sad melody. On the night of a full moon, it cries, for it seems to recognize its mother's face in the moon. Its tears create stains on the skull. When it thinks of its dead mother, it cries. Its crying makes the skull it wears rattle hollowly." Cubone will also cry out when the player is not near.


I like to interpret this as something Cubone thinks every time before entering a battle against other Pokémons. It is standing strong and preparing for it every time not trying to show its weakness. "It always wears the skull of its dead mother, so no one has any idea what its hidden face looks like.", possibly to cover the panic.


"It is called the Lonely Pokémon because of its tendency to keep to itself and avoid social situations, due to the trauma caused by the death of its mother." This is actually something I can relate heavily too, and Cubone is often seen distancing itself from other pokémons due to that.


Here the "he" implies to the player when they go offline. When the player fades away, Cubone's mind will stay fixated on its mother. Spark, once again, might strongly hint at its mother shining brightly at full moon.


Cubone is usually found sleeping by the players dark, secluded locations, including caves and mountains.


On one hand, this serves as a reminder that Cubone is one of the pokémon with the toughest upbringing, it has to overcome so much more than most other. Secondly, and this is obviously a stretch but if we see battle as a literal thing in this context we may very well interpret them as Pokémon battles, in which Cubone has to battle many, many of them to finally evolve into the more steady Marowak.


Cubone IS a soldier, fighting with bones and engaging into melee attacks. It will be there for you when you call upon it. It will overcome any obstacle, may it be personal or in battle. So watch as it fights this, and give your praise once you have won.
