The time for the 3rd edition of Kaapstad Musiekfees has finally come. Three acts have been shortlisted and are ready to perform, trying to achieve the ticket for Guinea Bissau. We wish them all good luck and hope that whoever wins will make South Africa proud. So it's now time for the 3 acts to introduce themselves.
01) MOONGA K. - Let Go
Born in Zambia, raised in Botswana and now based in Johannesburg, 23 year old Moonga K. is an alternative soul singer/songwriter. His music career began in 2012, after he ended 3rd in the Battle of the Finalist competition in 2011.
He's representing the English language.
02) TRESOR ft. Msaki - Sondela
TRESOR (French for “treasure” and pronounced “Trezor”) is multi award winning and platinum selling 2015 breakout singer-songwriter & producer licensed to Universal Music Group under his own label VII Recordings a division of Jacquel Entertainment Group. Born in Goma, he fled to Durban in 2007, after losing his parents. In between the two jobs he managed to hustle his way into the local Durban music scene, linking up with local musicians and music makers and quickly making a name for himself.
Msaki is a composer and singer-songwriter from East London, South Africa. She was born in East London and grew up between East London, Butterworth, Grahamstown, Peddie, Nqamakhwe and Cathcart. Born into a musically gifted family, her father who was a Dj while studying at the University of Fort Hare and also ran choirs throughout his life, was one of Msaki’s rst in uences. Her grandfather was also a well- known composer and songwriter therefore it comes as no surprise that at a young age Msaki knew that there was magic in music.
They're representing the Xhosa and Swahili language, marking the first bilingual song not to feature English in KM.
03) Brendan Peyper - Lekkerder op my Trekker
Brendan Peyper was born in Bloemfontein in a farming family. He studied at Hoërskool Jim Fouché with plans to study sound engineering. He started playing guitar at the age of five and began his professional career in music at age 14. He attracted audiences early on with sincere, infectious lyrics.
His first single, "Stop Wag Bly nog 'n bietjie" was a success with Channel 24 dubbing it the hottest music video.
He's representing the Afrikaans language
