Alright at first, let me tell you that in this final according to my notes my 22nd place / 26 received a rating of 5.0 / 10 leaving only my bottom 4 below 5.0. However I believe that also above this there were a few songs I liked, but don't think I'd have been willing to vote for. Hope that makes sense lol. And throughout the horse-race of Norway, Germany and Austria I was like: "Oh god don't let the winner be one of those" - for no personal reasons, but simply since I had all 3 of them out of my top 20. There's absolutely no harm meant by that statement btw. But then luckily Fire appeared out of nowhere.
After all I'd like to call this a surprising winner. But an absolutely deserved one. However if I may add this: I know that the Philippines had achieved already quite the bunch of top 10s (quite out of nowhere tbh.), but it's somewhat saddening that only 1 of them (KT Tandigan) was actually from there ... However I'm very happy that we're finally going to the allegedly (allegedly - because I don't think that's the case anymore) least successful Wwwsc country and also for Sheldon - even though he'll never know - from what I learned about him in The voice. Btw. I didn't even know he had own songs nor Filippino descent.
The voting was exciting. I'm quite content with the outcome since most entries got what they deserved imo. My personal preferences are obviously different in several cases. I'd like to point outsome rankings (turned out to be most of them ) that I picked randomly by looking at the final scoreboard at the end of the video:
About the rest of the results:
Norway: I mean it's not a bad song and congrats for AQing btw. I even found it touching, but idk it didn't work on me ...
Germany: Also a good song not gonna lie. What absolutely put me off though is that "Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh"-part. Like srsly ...? Congrats to Julian for another top 3 outcome though.
Austria: Yeah, it's the alternative genres ... And as it's not unknown in the forum how much I dislike them, I guess I don't have to write any further lol. Congrats for the top 5 which I (also from a neutral point of view) didn't expect for it.
Thailand: Wait what? A very good result for another rather unsuccessful country. Idk how and when that happened, but that's nice to see.
Spain: Tbh. I think this was the only song that I can't remember to have listened in the semis ... oops. Also when the final had begun I though this to be one of the songs that are just there and will finally disappear into the depths of the scoreboard - you know which ones I mean lol. However when I took my first active listening it turned out to be a really epic song that I thought could actually get somewhere. What I didn't see happening was its final 7th place.
UK, China and Finland: For the first time in a long time I thought we had AQs that could actually stand a chance (I mean to me it feels like most of the AQs in the last decade got like around 20th at best lol.) and predicted a top 20 for all of them. And looks like I was correct there.
Russia: Personally I didn't like this a lot though and in fact found it to be too screaming. However congrats for just sneaking into the top 10.
Canada: At first this song wasn't very special to me. However when it came up again (still during the semi final phase) it turned out to be pretty good and I rose its rating up to 9 / 10 - between Malta and India. And when both of them got eliminated it was clear that this was going to be my lol (Enough with the backstories here). It's result shocks me a bit though because I thought Tu t'en iras would end up something like 7th or 8th place and certainly not 14th.
Slovenia: The song itself isn't for me. But I found this to actually be quite the vocal performance. That absolutely justifies this 16th place for me. Also congrats to Jasna to be brave enough to put herself out there because imo that edition (and result) can both be considered as an absolute success.
Israel: I just love that the music video of this song was apparently filmed in the archive of a museum in Tel Aviv lol. Jokes aside, it was a good entry and got underrated imo.
South Africa: Well that's a vocal performance. I absolutely noticed that during the semis and was glad (and not too surprised - mostly since 50 % of the entries qualifying to the final is a lot.) she managed to advance directly to the final. However in that round I also found the song to be a bit boring, which is also the reason why South Africa got a somewhat lower ranking in the final (5th and 3rd respectively) and an imo okayish result.
Well, at least I didn't come bottom 3 in the semi ... In fact the bottom 5 of that semi final is more or less how I pictured it to be. What I didn't see happening was the last place for Turkey.
