we've been quite for a while, so why not bring you some new info for once~ [#1] Oct. 18 Update
NEW SECOND CHANCE FORMAT
As reported by Aftonbladet, according to Melfests Project Leader, Anette Brattström, the 5th show will be revamped for the 2022 competition. Previously, during the Second Chance, 4 duels consisting of 2 songs each would take place, making 8 in total. Winners of each duel would qualify to the Grand Final.
With the new format, it's almost the same as the previous one, but with 2 groups instead of 4, with 4 songs in each of the 2 groups. From each group, 2 songs would qualify, making it the same amount of qualifiers as the previous format.
The change came with the fact that the "previous use" of the Second Chance format seemed outdated as of recent years. The Second Chance was used so acts who make it there could think of potentially revamping their staging and potentially polish it more, but as of recent, most acts seem to be fully satisfied with their staging even before the live shows, considering the heavy amount of rehearsals prior to their semis.
FIRST RUMOURED ACTS
And we're just in time for the regular "rumour mill" where Aftonbladet's Tobbe Ek reveals the potential acts for the upcoming Melfest with his personal sources*. I'll be giving minor information regarding the artists musical background, as well as some info regarding the song if any was provided in the article. In either case, Aftonbladet started off todays rumour mill with two recognizable faces, namely...
#1 LIAMOO
Winner of Swedish Idol in 2016, and previously participated in Melfest.
PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS: 2 2018: "Last Breath", 6th 2019: "Hold You", 3rd
...and #2 ROBIN BENGTSSON
3rd place at Swedish Idol in 2008, and several participations at Melfest, including a victory in 2017. Then came to place 5th overall at the Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev, Ukraine.
PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS: 3 2016: "Constellation Prize", 5th 2017: "I Can't Go On", 1st (5th) 2020: "Take a Chance", 8th
2 down, 26 more to go. More rumours to come in due time.
*Tobbe Ek gathers several sources from different people with information regarding who is to partake in the competition. While they have a good track-record on revealing who will take part prior to the announcement during November time, they're still only speculation, and minor mistakes have been made in previous years, including Renaida in 2020, as well as Carola in 2021. Thus, we do wanna let you know that the list may or may not be 100% accurate by the time the artist press conference happens.

[#4] Nov. 23 Update
A BUNCHA NAMES #2
We're right around the corner until we get to find out the participating acts for the coming edition of Melfest. But we still got quite a batch of names that could be making it to next years show.
Starting of, we have names such as...
#12 LINDA BENGTZING
Schlager singer with multiple participants in the past, having gained a bunch of hits with many of her early entries.
PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS: 7
2005: "Alla flickor", 10th 2006: "Jag ljuger så bra", 7th 2008: "Hur svårt ska det va?", 5th 2011: "E det fel på mej", 7th 2014: "Ta mig", 5th in semi 2016: "Killer Girl", 7th in semi 2019: "Alla mina sorger", 6th in semi
#13 ANNA BERGENDAHL
Singer-songwriter who took the Melfest title back in 2010, but ultimately also became the very first non-qualification for Sweden at ESC. Started studying in the medical program, and has also returned to music a couple of years after.
PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS: 3
2010: "This Is My Life", 1st (11th in semi) 2019: "Ashes to Ashes", 10th 2020: "Kingdom Come", 3rd
#14 TENORI
A mysterious pop-opera duo, with no disclosed information on who any of the members are at the very moment. Sources does however state that the song is rather good, and could be grabbing one of the Grand Final tickets from the semi.
PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS: 0
#15 WILLIAM SEGERDAHL
Young singer who started his career in Idol 2018, where he got 3rd place.
His participation is very uncertain at the moment, as Segerdahl himself contacted the reporter in a comical manner, stating that it "would be fun to know what song I am competing with haha. looks like you have more information than me", hinting at either that the sources are wrong about Segerdahls participation, or that he got a spot, but is still deciding the song to participate with.
(or, maybe, y'know, Segerdahl is just messing with him)
PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS: 0
#16 NIELLO
Swedish rapper with a decently sized follower, who has also collabed with artists such as Danny Saucedo and Janice. Has reportedly been submitting songs for Melfest in the past few years, but 2022 seems to be his year to finally debut.
PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS: 0
#17 FAITH KAKEMBO
An anesthesia nurse who made her singing presence known when she competed in both P4 Nästa 2019 and Melfest 2020.
PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS: 1
2020: "Crying Rivers", 5th in semi
... and #18 OMAR RUDBERG
Former FO&O member, singer and current actor. Got big fame while part of The Fooo Conspiracy, before going into a solo career, and currently has a contract with Netflix as one of the main actors in the series "Young Royals".
Rudberg's participation is also very uncertain at this point, as it has been reported that SVT wishes to have him in after his fame in Young Royals. However, two obstacles are currently in the way; 1) if Rudberg has declined the offer, or 2) if the recording of the 2nd season for Young Royals clashes with any of the dates during Melfest 2022. Considering the high popularity of Young Royals, any argument for him to take part in Melfest over the recording of the 2nd season would be to no avail.
PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS: 2 2017: "Gotta Thing About You" (as part of FO&O), 11th 2019: "Om om och om igen", 6th in semi
While we're on it...
It was recently revealed that the first half of the 28 acts (aka 14) will be revealed by SVT this friday, while the other batch will be revealed next week. On top of that, it would also seem that we're most likely only going to get to know approx. 21 rumoured acts before the official 28 will be revealed. The ~3 extra acts is potentially coming either prior to the first batch on friday, or probably continue before the second batch is revealed next week.
Eitherway, 3 days to go!

[#5] Nov. 24 Update
POTENTIAL LAST BATCH
Coming out faster than expected, we've received our potentially last batch of rumoured acts before the announcement this Friday and next week. Let's go through them quickly shall we? In the list includes...
#18 ANDERS BAGGE
Songwriter and musician who have worked with acts such as Madonna, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Celine Dion and Enrique Iglesias. Also been a part of the jury in the Swedish version of Idol ever since 2008. He is generally not a singer at all, but after gaining a lot of praise in the newly adapted "Masked Singer Sweden" in 2021, his stage fright seems to slowly fade away, as he is potentially making his debut on the Melfest stage in 2022.
PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS: 0
#19 LILLASYSTER
Rockband from Gothenburg, with many moderate views on their music both on Youtube and Spotify.
PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS: 1
2021: "Pretender", lost in the second chance
#20 MALIN CHRISTIN
Sister of Wiktoria Johansson, and upcoming singer with an album on the get-go. She was one of the songwriters behind Malta's 2021 Eurovision entry, "Je me casse".
PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS: 0
#21 CORNELIA JAKOBSDOTTER
Singer and daughter to the main vocalist in the rock band "The Poodles". Also a part of the band "Stockholm Syndrome" (formerly known as Love Generation).
PREVIOUS ATTEMPTS: 2 2011: "Dance Alone", lost in the second chance 2012: "Just A Little Bit", 6th in the semi
...and #22... uhm
"A male dansbands singer who had a career on the theatre stage"
yeah, we don't have a lot of information regarding this act at the very moment, it seems, but sources do give us these details for them. it's the same way they "revealed" other acts in the past, including the "Yohio-styled girl group" (Dolly Style) in 2015, as well as the "young unestablished female singer with a song by Bobby Ljunggren" (Clara Klingenström) in 2021.
And also, if you noticed that we started on #18, despite the fact that we finished last update with #18, it's because that William Segerdahl, who was previously on the list, was removed from it, as sources have heard different things now.
And these were the rumours in the article provided on Aftonbladet.
On a separate blog on the same website, many other rumoured acts have been shown, but with no credible source to fully back their participation.
One detail written is how many rock songs have been submitted to SVT after the victory of Måneskin, and the blog post states how there is the high possibility that we're getting a minimum of two rock acts in the coming Melfest edition. One of them has already been written in the article, namely Lillasyster, but who the potential second act is has yet to be fully disclosed.
Leaving that mini detail behind, here are some names in the blog post that could have a shot at it:
Amadeus Söögard | Son to Carola. Has stated previously that he doesn't wish to take the same route as his mother, but his name still came up within speculations. Maybe a change of mind? | Shirley Clamp | Has supposedly sent in several songs, and a source states that she's in, but others haven't said the same. | Jennifer Brown | A hint from someone mentioned Jennifer Brown, but no other source have confirmed this. | A Masked Singer participant
| Another masked singer participant might still be making their way to the 2022 edition. Both Daniel Norberg and Nassim Al Fakir have been seen partaking in songwriting camps. Or could we potentially see a curveball? Something from Victoria Silvstedt, perhaps? | Sabina Johansson | Newly signed with Cardiac Records, which has had a good track record in Melfest such as Renaida and Frans. Also a close friend to Oscar Zia and Molly Hammar, so a Melfest participation is not off the charts. | Lili & Susie | It has been reported that the 80s duo have sent in songs, but have they made it? We'll find out soon. |
And that is all that has been revealed thus far. Tomorrow, the first 14 acts will be revealed. Whether it's via a press conference, or via the app, is yet to actually be disclosed, but the most likely alternative is that we'll get them one by one via the app, aka what they did in 2021.
The announcement is looking to start somewhere early in the morning, around ~8-9AM, so be sure to look out for any news around the morning tomorrow
