Select American Song #5 - NF for SSC #6

Welcome to the American selection to SSC #6

A recap video for our selection should be available soon but I'm going to reveal the five songs and to launch the selection anyway in case the production of the video is delayed. Four of these songs have already been revealed but Djanga by Polina needed a replacer (I forgot that she would be allowed to compete for USA but not to sing in her mothertongue). I had another potential replacer but I decied to keep her in reserve since I might need her for Brazil.

The theme of our selection is "born abroad" so the selection is made out of American artists who were born outside of the country. I also decided to select only artists that have a connection with their native country other than just be born there by accident and that have a strong connection with USA as well (born to at least one American parent or emigrated before they became adults).

So here is our selection (song 2 is the replacer of Polina's song):

Song 1: Japanese Breakfast - Be Sweet



Japanese Breakfast is an American indie rock band created in 2013 from Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) and Eugene (Oregon). The frontsinger is Michelle Chongmi Zauner, born in Seoul in 1989 from a South Korean mother and an American father. She moved to Eugene with her parents at the age of nine months.

Song 2: Njomza - Over and done



Njomza Vitia was born in Ludwigsburg (Germany) from Kosovo Albanian parents but was raised in Chicago, Illinois.

Song 3: Edge of Paradise - False Idols



Edge of Paradise is an American metal band created in 2011 and base in Los Angeles. The frontsinger is Margarita Monet. She was born as Margarita Martirosyan in Yerevan in 1990 (USSR, current Armenia) then moved to Moscow at a young age where she became a piano prodigy. She finally moved to the USA at the age of eleven.

Song 4 : Esotique ft. Sabrina Sapal - Maharaja



Sabrina Sapal was born in Toronto. She is from a Punjabi family and moved to the USA at the age of three. She's running her career in USA and India.

Song 5 : Mitski - The Only Heartbreaker



Mitski Miyawaki was born in the Mie Prefecture (Japan) in 1990. Her father is American. She was raised in multiple countries before settling in the USA.
