NEW RULES CHANGES The number of interested people willing to take part in the contest keeps increasing every edition. While the maximum number of countries/territories in the contest can’t exceed 55, there are still some countries/territories that can’t participate. Therefore, after discussing with the council, it was decided that a new rule must be introduced in the contest so that users who have countries with small music industries aren’t forced to be stuck with them forever and the remaining countries/territories can join or withdraw anytime.HOW WILL IT WORK?After all the 55 spots are filled, anyone who confirms will be able to join temporarily as an associate member in the respective edition with a country that is currently not a permanent member of the Own Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union. An associate member joins the Standby List of the edition and will be able to fill a free spot and participate in that edition if it will have less than 48 participants. That means that if the following edition the number of participating countries will increase and exceed 48 entries, the user(s) who confirmed with an associate member will not be able to take part. The associate member user becomes a permanent member only after someone permanently withdraws from the contest.
• If the user with a "weak" country wants to take a better nation from the list, they will be able to do so, meaning that the country they owned before is being demoted to an associate member until someone else takes it. • When someone withdraws permanently from the contest, their spot is being taken by the first user that confirms with any available country. They can either choose to keep the country owned by the previous user or pick a new one from the list. We came to the conclusion that the majority of the countries from Oceania and even some mainland countries lack good quality music and in a contest with such a high competition most of them will struggle to find a song that fits with all the standards and that can stand out. It was also realized that only a few Oceanian countries can sustain themselves musically, these being: Australia, Fiji, French Polynesia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Samoa and Tonga. These countries will most likely mentain their status of permanent members. For any other questions don't hesitate to contact the council!CONFIRMATIONS OPEN TOMORROWThe confirmations for the 26th edition will start tomorrow, 22nd April, at 20:00 CEST. There are currently 3 more spots, so make sure to be fast enough if you want to claim a spot or change your country.

SOUTH KOREAN DRAW Following the permanent withdrawal of the South Korean delegation, after only three editions, the permanent members of the council have met at the OABU headquarters to discuss the future of one of the "most wanted" countries in the contest. After the meeting, we came to the conclusion that the new delegation who will take over should be someone who is committed to the contest to avoid similar situations in the future. Therefore, it was decided that the draw will take place in a different manner than the previous draws that usually took place on the discord server.
The draw will happen before the confirmations of the 31st edition. That means that if you've had plans regarding the current edition, such as searching for an entry or starting a national selection, there is nothing to worry about.
Now into the most important part: how will the draw work? Only the users who are currently in the contest will be allowed to apply. Everyone will have equal chances, because this will not be a matter of luck anymore. It will work as a "National Selection" format. Every interested user will have to search and submit a song from South Korea, of course respecting the rules from the rulesbook regarding the entries. In order to apply for the draw, the user must submit the song in the form that will be opened together with the draw. After all the songs are submitted within the deadline (one song per person), a recap will be provided, and the songs will compete for the right to represent South Korea in the next edition, and the winning user will become the permanent HoD. Voting will be mandatory for all the participants of the draw, otherwise the song will be eliminated from the competition. Others will be allowed to vote as well as part of the rest of the world.
COUNTRIES SWAP Starting with the 31st edition, a new rule will be introduced, specifically related to the country swap. That means that if your current country has finished in the bottom 5 of the semi-final and is supposed to compete in the next edition's quarter-final, the users will not be allowed to change their countries in that edition (unless they swap with another country that's also competing in the quarter-final). You will not be forced to compete in the quarter-final if you do not wish to.
This decision was taken in order to avoid users to forcefully "escape" the quarter-final by trying to take a country that would go directly to the semi-finals, "wasting" one spot from the QF qualifiers. The only exceptions will be when a draw happens and the user wins the draw. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us, or discuss in the General Discussion thread.

HEAD OF DELEGATION REMOVAL After an unacceptable and disrespectful behavior that was reported to us for having happened during the live show of the final results of the 30th edition towards a certain member of the community and the contest, it was decided to remove and permanently ban from the contest the head of delegation of Turkmenistan. The ban is effective immediately and they will not be able to return to the contest anymore. In our opinion, the comments were totally uncalled for and we do not tolerate such behavior especially when it was directed personally to someone. Turkmenistan will become free starting with next edition.

After the conclusion of the 30th edition and the departure of one of the most important person from the council that contributed to the glow up of the contest and made it the way it was in the latest editions, I've been thinking a lot about its fate. I am grateful to all of the participants and the council who made this contest possible and run for 30 amazing unforgettable editions. Making this decision really saddens me, so to be more exact, this is a post to announce my own departure as the main host of the contest for an undefined amount of time. I feel like I can't be focused on hosting online contests as much as I did before, and without the major help from someone with skills in graphic design, I am feeling very helpless. Therefore, I want to announce that this contest is taking a hiatus, for an unknown amount of time. I've got to love it a lot, until the point that it became my favorite contest, even if it started just as a spin-off. This is why I am not willing to close it permanently, but just give myself a break and wait until the right person who can take care of it will arrive. Basically I'm looking for a reformation and hire new council member(s). When this time will come, I am more than happy to return as a council member and continue from the point where we left. Whenever this happens, I hope to still have your support. I have my hopes up that sooner or later the contest will return and I'd be more than happy to assist with all the help that is needed. For anyone interested to ever host/contribute to the contest as a graphic designer or more, don't hesitate to contact me. Love you all and I hope this is not a farewell.

NEXT EDITION'S CONFIRMATIONS All the countries draws have been finalized and it's now finally to reveal details concerning the upcoming edition. First of all congratulations to the winners of the draws and good luck with your new countries. Second of all, for the upcoming editions there's 3 spots available in the contest, meaning that 3 new people that are currently in the waiting list are allowed to join. Normally it would be the first three therefore; asw , fra and Wysteria . Considering that asw is currently first in the waiting list and they participated in the last draw, they will be allowed to choose a country before the confirmation begins. Anyone else can confirm but the highest in the waiting list will get prioritized.
The confirmations will open Thursday, 26th January, at 18:00 CET!
