My top 20 of Eesti Laul 2023
1. Janek - House of Glass A beautiful song performed by a guy with an enjoyable voice. There's not much more to add actually because this goes straight into my music taste.
2. Bedwetters - Monsters A powerful rock song with a good evolution over the 3 minutes. It happens to be somewhat radio friendly and catchy.
3. Elysa - Bad Philosophy This song got me already at the intro. Throughout the 3 minutes it does have the parts where it loses a bit of it's power. Especially the more silent part in the second half is a bit of a downer. Apart from that I can't really tell too many negative aspects.
4. Ollie - Venom Good pop-rock song, although the first part is lacking power. The guy also has a good voice, but towards the end it feels like he tries a bit too hard.
5. Kaw - Valik Generally taling this is not bad, but has moments I'd call hectic.
Personally I didn't enjoy Kaw's voice too much. In fact it sounded a lot like he's shouting. Maybe it'd be better if his vocals were a bit lower pitched?
6. Sissi - Lighthouse This is a modern pop ballad with an original rhythm (?). The chorus reminds me a bit of
Alcohol you. My main issue with it: It ends very abrupt.
Sissi has a very original voice, but I fear it's not one I'd like to hear too often since it can probably get annoying very quickly.
7. Neon Letters & Maiko - Tokimeki Tokimeki is not a favourite of mine, but it's not bad and has potential. Her voice bothers me a bit because to me it seemed quite monotonous not gonna lie.
8. Carlos Ukareda - Whiskey won't forget Just like the song title insists it's a country inspired song. Being honest, Idk whether that's a good idea this year, when we had an Estonian country song just last year, but well.
If I may say this, Carlos has an enjoyable, yet potentially annoying, singing voice.
9. Merlyn - Unicorn Vibes Here I had expectations after reading the song title, but they sadly weren't fulfilled ...
Merlyn's entry is a modern song with interesting instrumentation. Her vocals don't convince me, however. It'll be interesting to see how it'll be performed live.
10. Meelik - Tuju It sounds funny, yet annoying. Therefore I'm on one hand excited to see it live, but on the other hand not sure how many times I want them to.
Idk about others, but I didn't understand anything here. Was it the production of the song or just my headphones? Being honest, I couldn't even tell whether they're singing in English or Estonian.
11. Mia - Üks samm korraga A beautiful piano ballad that somehow reminds me of Demi Lovato. Also Mia's got a beautiful voice. However there's something in it that annoys me a lot.
12. Alika - Bridges It sounds quite modern, but also a bit boring.
13. Andreas - Why do you love me I like this song's instrumentation a lot. The melody and especially the chorus isn't for me, however. Overall it's okay. Maybe his vocals are a bit annoying, though.
14. M els - So Good (At what you do) It's okay, I guess. I literally can't add anything else.
15. Ellip - Pretty Girl This is one of those songs that I normally really don't like. Sadly here it's not any different ... I'm particularly not fond of the repetitive chorus.
What I liked though, are the early 2000s vibes.
16. Anett & Fredi - You need to move on This song has no climax and it's therefore just there and doesn't do anything besides keep going.
Vocally it's okay, but her voice is leaning towards annoying.
17. Inger - Awaiting you Inger's a special and highly annoying voice. As for the song, it seems to be quite modern, yet repetitive (in every way possible) and forgettable.
18. Linalakk & Bonzo - Aeg I instantly fell in love with their voices. Sadly their song is so boring I actually wasn't able to listen to the end ... Also I couldn't decide whether it's a christmas song or just a lullaby.
19. Robin Juhkental - Kurbuse matused Robin has a good voice, but that's basically it. The song is quite boring.
20. Wiiralt - SalalikHonestly I had no idea what to expect from this song. And even if I did, it wouldn't have been this.
A very not Eurovision song, that I really tried to like, but it's just too psychedelic for me.
Another national selection on a good level. Although I'm struggling with several voices I have to say that most of the songs are at least listenable. What disappointed me a lot, is the amount of songs in Estonian.
