NORWEGIAN ENTRY REVEALED! Oslo, Norway • 25 June 2023 Den Norsken Sangen returned and another edition has come to an end. Thanks for all the votes and apologies for the short voting period. We are more than proud to present our next entry with the goal to make it to the Final again after 2 editions. She finally got her chance...
EMELIE HOLLOW • "I DON'T BELIEVE IT"
One 6th and 4th place as a songwriter, one 3rd and 2nd place as a singer; Emelie Hollow's dream finally came true and with a 48-point margin she has definitely earned her ticket to the North Vision Song Contest!
Born in Norway, Emelie Hollow released her first song with Universal Music at just 12 years old after winning a singing competition on radio, 9 years after the 3-year-old Emelie sang in public for the first time. At a young age she learned to play the piano and the cello on top of singing in a choir. Her dad, a New Zealander, was into rock, while her mum was more interested in classical and singer-songwriters. Music has always played a key role in Emelie’s life, and since she wrote her first song, she has developed her own unique style characterized by musicality, beautifull vocals and her personal lyrics.
Beside her own music she has become a sought-after songwriter, taking her to cities as Stockholm, Copenhagen, London and Nashville, and she has been part of several collabs with several Northvision artists like Dagny, Ruben, Victoria Nadine and Skaar. Emelie and Alan Walker’s "LILY" has been streamed more than three billion times globally.
Watching an Emelie Hollow concert is a moving experience – few artists can bring such a hush over a venue and give goosebumps to their entire audience.
Written by Emelie herself - the official Norwegian entry in the North Vision Song Contest 41!

BELGIUM HAS CHOSEN!
After a series of unforeseen complications, Belgium has finally revealed its highly anticipated pick for the upcoming North Vision Song Contest in Austria. Despite initial plans for a national selection, which unfortunately had to be abandoned due to disagreements between the Walloon and Flemish broadcasters, the decision has been made to entrust this prestigious opportunity to a talented young artist. Introducing Sonayou, a rising star on the Belgian music scene, who will proudly represent the nation with her captivating entry, "Femme fatale." Known for her incredible stage presence and undeniable yass girl energy, Sonayou is set to infuse the competition with her unique sound and style. The journey towards this selection has not been without its challenges. The broadcaster, facing difficulties in organizing a national final, took the bold step of redirecting their resources towards the North Vision act, placing their trust in Sonayou's undeniable talent and potential. The decision was made after a thorough evaluation of her outstanding musical abilities and her ability to transcend the tired trends of contemporary pop music. Amidst a flurry of last-minute submissions, Sonayou's submission emerged as the clear frontrunner, captivating the judges with its infectious energy and empowering message. It was evident that she possessed the rare ability to command the stage and captivate audiences with her magnetic presence. With "Femme fatale" as her weapon of choice, Sonayou is poised to make a lasting impression and showcase the immense talent that Belgium has to offer on the North Vision stage. Tunisia reveals entry!
After a nearly 2-week-long competition, the first-ever Maghrebi Music Fest, which selected the Northvision entries for Tunisia, Egypt, and Morocco, has come to a conclusion. And with it, the Tunisian entrant has finally been found. You can now see who has won and will represent Tunisia without further ado below.
She is Zeyne!
“One of my goals is to be unapologetic in showcasing who I am as an Arab female artist living in the 21st century, living in Jordan, going through the struggles that many do. So I express that because, why not? Why not talk about relationships as a young adult? Why not talk about mental health? Why not talk about talking to yourself and dealing with your anxiety? Why not talk to other women and resonate with them? It’s partly society’s influence on us: we’re always used to being silent and not having a safe space to speak and express what we want.”
Zeyne is a Palestinian/Jordanian singer-songwriter from Amman. With a voice passed down from her grandmother down to her mother and then to her, ‘songbird’ Zeyne seeks to create music that shares her truths and perspectives in the hopes of connecting with others worldwide. She first gained attention on social media through her Instagram cover page @tuneswithzein, as her distinctly airy vocals garnered considerable acclaim throughout the Middle East. A year on, zeyne seeks to merge her global musical influences into her unique Arabic sound as she looks to release originals that will push the conventional boundaries of Arabic music.
Her meteoric rise in the music industry has ignited a fire in the region. Though she entered the scene just a couple of years ago, her Arabic releases have already become viral sensations, adding her voice to the chorus of change that’s sweeping the region. She believes that Arabic music is poised to become the next big thing, following in the footsteps of the K-Pop phenomenon and the widespread popularity of Afrobeats. “With the Arabic language becoming more universal, there is more of a global appeal to it. Arabic music is the next in line to become global. And I feel like in two years’ time, there will even be award shows with a new category for the MENA region in general,” she says. Zeyne’s astute assessment of the landscape underscores her intuitive grasp of the musical zeitgeist and reveals her as a true innovator in the burgeoning Arabic music scene in the region and beyond.
In a fiercely competitive debut edition of the Maghrebi Music Fest, Zeyne, entering as a Tunisian participant, topped the Tunisian semi-final before winning the entire competition with 168 points, finishing ahead of all other Tunisian, Moroccan, and Egyptians participants in the grand finale. As such, Zeyne won the right to represent Tunisia at the upcoming Northvision Song Contest hosted in Austria. Though not Tunisian herself, Zeyne has expressed a fond pride in representing the North African country, describing Tunisia as a "home away from home." Furthermore, as a Palestinian and Jordanian woman, Zeyne will also represent the people of her Levantine motherlands through her participation at Northvision. With this opportunity, Zeyne seeks to amplify the voices of Palestine and Jordan, countries that are not represented in Northvision and whose people, in the case of Palestine, are globally neglected.
Ana Wein (أنا وين) by Zeyne Tunisia's entry for the 41st Northvision Song Contest
Written by Lina Makhoul, Nasir AlBashir, Zein Sajdi Music and Mix by Nasir AlBashir
In “Ana Wein,” Zeyne delves deep into the pain and struggles of a relationship beyond repair. The haunting quality of her vocals leads listeners through an emotional journey of regret, denial, anger, and, ultimately, acceptance. Zeyne shares her inner monologue with her listeners through "Ana Wein." The song centers around her anxiety and memories of a toxic relationship but also relates to her intense burnout and the pressure that comes about in the music industry. Sung in Zeyne's native Levantine Arabic dialect, the song further pays homage to the singer's Jordanian-Palestinian heritage.
The song, co-written by Zeyne, Nasir Al Bashir, and Lina Makhoul, sounds almost like a film score, highlighting the emotional beats through orchestral elements and iconic ballad instrumentation. Ironically, however, the song was born through a relatively simple songwriting process. Beginning with just a few chords, the song grew exponentially in production with the help of songstress Lina Makoul. Makoul’s input on the track was initially that of a friend giving advice from a place of empathy, but as she became more involved, she ultimately ended up contributing to the writing on the track. This was Zeyne’s first time working with Makoul, but their friendship and her long-standing professional relationship with Al Bashir made the track a breeze to work on. For Zeyne, mutual understanding and personal connection have been crucial pillars of what she looks for in a collaborator. In the end, Zeyne, alongside Makoul and producer Nasir AlBashir, was able to cultivate cultivated a deeply resonating musical piece that won the hearts of the Maghrebi public.

Two can play at that game Aziza to fly the Lebanese flag with AYAYAY!
LBCI has revealed the outcome of its search for its entry for the forty-first North Vision Song Contest, and the artist stepping up to the plate in the hopes of curtailing Lebanon's string of less-than-desirable contest results, which have seen the country fall to its joint lowest ever rank in the Ranking of Nations. Aziza
An enigmatic singer-songwriter both in her solo project and as one half of electronic duo Retro Elecktro, Beirut-born Aziza emerges from the vibrant tapestry of the Lebanese music scene to seamlessly weave together classical Arabic Tarab music and contemporary pop sounds.
Born during the turbulence of the Lebanese civil war, her exact age and true name remain a mystery, yet Aziza's musical journey speaks volumes all the same. Singing since the age of three and growing up surrounded by the melodies of legendary Arab icons like Warda, Fairuz, Umm Kulthum, Sabah, and Dalida, a mosaic of regional influences provides the backdrop for Aziza to forge her own unique musical style, which she calls 'Tarapop'. Described as "the reviving sound for classical oriental and Tarab music", Aziza's magnetic presence has captivated audiences at events across the Middle East and beyond – and the North Vision Song Contest will shortly be the next pin on her performing map. « Ayayay » Aziza will fly the Lebanese flag with "Ayayay" (أي ياي ياي). The second "Ayayay" of NVSC #41, Lebanon's first uptempo entry since the thirty-third edition and its first female entry since the thirty-fifth edition is a laid-back Arabic disco number, ready to bring some fun to the proceedings in Austria. Written by Anthony Khoury ("Enti Ana", "Leish Baddi Eb’a") and produced by Emdee Jabr, this will mark the first time in North Vision history that two songs with the same title have competed in the same edition. They're having an ayayay off 🧡
Will Aziza change Lebanon's North Vision fortunes with "Ayayay"? Let's wait and see. Lebanon's NVSC journey made the best possible start as Nicole Saba won for the country on their debut in the fifth edition with 'Hafdal Ahlam', bringing the contest to Beirut for the sixth edition and starting a (to this day unmatched) three-edition qualification streak. The country's results from then on were rather turbulent, including two four-edition streaks of non-qualifications, although Myriam Fares achieved Lebanon's second best result with 'Nifsi Aoulhalak' in the fourteenth edition - second place.
A new delegation stepped in for the twenty-fourth edition, bringing Lebanon back to the final with Nelly Makdessy's 'Kunt Atmanna' in Vienna, and achieving three top ten results for the country (with 'Call Me a Stranger', '22' and 'Dear Jealousy') before passing the baton on to the current delegation team for the thirty-fourth edition onwards, returning to the final - and to the top ten - with Azure Ryder's 'Stronger'. The country has seen mixed results since, with Venus Bleeds' 'Revelation' being the country's most recent qualifier in the thirty-seventh edition of the contest. Brought to you by the Lebanese delegation on 25th June 2023

new beginnings. In a press statement, ORF has announced that, once the current edition has been concluded, the Head of Delegation of Austria will step down from her position to pursue other ambitions. She has been in charge of the country since the 27th edition and has overseen the steady succession from her predecessor, maintaining a streak of successes before ending up in the pre-qualification round in the 33rd edition. Through establishing the household brand of Kaiserschmarrn, Austria retained a streak of qualifications that keeps up to this day, peaking in YUKNO's victory last edition with "Böse Geister".
We wish the best for her future.
A successor shall be determined in time through coordination with the NBU.
Am 6. Juli 2023 in Graz veröffentlicht. Alle Rechte gehen an ORF und NBU. ♡ sag' mir, warum kannst du nicht bleiben? ♡this was originally planned to happen right after #40 finished, but through fortune and coincidence i ended up winning nvsc right as i anticipated my departure. as my life takes me to different directions and places & i depart from online contests i'm reflecting on the past 10+ years here and feel much gratitude for the people who shaped this contest. as someone who was on the council three times now, had the opportunity to contribute much to the evolution of the contest, and was able to see the spark of those who have invested their life into it, i hope that this continues as long as you want to. having had moldova and austria here since my debut in #4, i hope that those two countries continue to inspire others musically. and i wish the next player of austria much fun, my country's got a lot of sleeper hits! you can get my playlists if u want, they brought me luck =) just dm me ♡ thank you for all the memories, good and bad. the long nights exchanging suggestions and opinions on songs. the endless nvsc shows, the joy and excitement of all the results. the friendships that were made, those that came to an end and those that last to this day. even with the popular saying of "it's just an online contest", it's been a big impact to my life and i hope that those who haven't been in it as long are able to experience it if they haven't. ♡this is my final decision. one that i thought of doing for a very, very, very long time. once right before joining the council for the first time back in #23, once around the #31 period, and once before winning #40. but in order not to be swayed again, i've made this announcement in advance. to the admins in the council: don't exhaust your people. don't bully & abuse them either. you know who you are. be better. ♡ we are waiting for the sun, & it's coming tomorrow. ♡
