Guyana to return to their Day Ones?Georgetown ☆ 19th November 2023After constantly missed the final for four editions in a row, the Guyanese delegation was about to be fired and deported from the country. However, Guyana's OABA membership and its participation in Own Americavision Song Contest is safe for now after Olivia Dean successfully brought the country the top 10 finish with her song “Echo”. The head of Guyanese delegation, Kinoshitash Akiraj has stated that the broadcaster has gained more trusts from the official funders including a famous investor Fiona Singh herself. They officially confirmed that the nation will be presented in Saint Lucia.
Akiraj also informed that a very similar face will make a return to Own Americavision stage and fly the Golden flag there. She already gave us a touching, contest-winning ballad. She already gave us a tune featured Guyanese traditions… Without further ado, please give a warm welcome back to her…
Sabiyha Rasheed is an Indo-Guyanese descent singer currently based in South London’s Croydon. As a developing artist she’s already been marked by many as someone with a bright future. On her debut single, ‘Bird’, she shows exactly why. Strong songwriting and an astonishing voice already set her up as more than just another new act. The 19-year-old singer songwriter is not ashamed to admit she spent most of her teenage years gathering the building blocks for her own sound, drawing on influences as diverse as urban soul, reggae, folk and blues, oblivious to the popular music around her. Sabiyha is definitely one of the most similar faces for Own Americavision fans as she already represented Guyana twice: in the sixth edition with “Wolf” - which ended up winning the whole thing and in the ninth edition with “Choorile”.
Sabiyha has always been proud of her Guyanese heritage as she integrated Guyanese traditional aspects into her musics, including her EPs ‘Choorile’ and ‘Sheerkhan’ which were named after Guyanese cultures. On 19 November, she was revealed to make a comeback and introduced as the Guyanese representative in the 17th Own Americavision Song Contest. She will make her heritage proud in Saint Lucia with the song…
Day Ones Guyana in Own Americavision Song Contest 17
Timeslot: 0:06+ Composed by Andrew James, Callum Rose and Sabiyha Rasheed
Growing a dedicated following of listeners, Sabiyha seamlessly weaves her reality through music. Her forthcoming EP ‘Sheerkhan’ is said to be a raw portrait of the singer-songwriter’s Guyanese heritage, queerness and road to self-discovery. Sheerkan, which is Sabiyha’s mother’s maiden name, is an unflinching, raw portrait of Guyanese culture, queerness and self-discovery, taking the listener on a deeply cathartic & captivating journey. Lead single and her third entry for Own Americavision, “Day Ones” is a celebration of sisterhood, placing value on camaraderie and the connection Sabiyha seeks from her friends. It’s her inner circle who’ve helped the artist through the most difficult times, encouraging her to pursue music in moments when the dream felt unreachable. To honour the release, the Guyanese delegation sent an invitation to her to strike inspiration in unpredictable places and celebrate sisterhood by representing the South American nation.
Best of luck to every participant and to Rani (Queen) Sabiyha!

Big News from the Spice Island It's About to Get Spicy St. Georges, xx November 2023 Following another edition that continued the trend of AQ, 23rd, NQ, the Grenada Broadcasting Network has some big news to share. The Grenadian head of delegation Miho Muise has announced that they have stepped down from their roll as the Grenadian HoD. Despite bringing 4 of the top 5 Grenadian results all time ( Lick It N Split, I Could Be Yours, Tasty, Maria, with My Way Out being before their time), they have agreed to terms with a different broadcaster to take over as their head of delegation.
Live Grenadian public reaction "It's been a hell of a ride. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to showcase the best of this nation, but all good things must come to an end. Six editions, four appearances in the finals, and two automatic qualifications. Not bad for an island with about 125,000 people. Unfortunately, another broadcaster came in with an offer that I just simply can't refuse. Until next time," Former HoD Miho Muise said in a press conference today.
"I loved working with them. I mean, I wouldn't have dragged Zebra Katz to compete with me if I didn't. They've done so much for Grenadian artists from all over the world. I'll miss having them in that position" Shygirl tweeted today. Shygirl represented the spice island twice during Muise's tenure; first as an AQ, and second as a participant herself, where she earned the highest position for a Grenadian artist ever.
"It doesn't feel like it's been two years since they first reached out to me," Roses Gabor tweeted today, "I was the first artist they contacted, and it was such a dream come true. I wish them the best with wherever they go." Roses Gabor was the first representative under Muise, getting Grenada's first qualification since 2019, as well as the very first leftside finish for the nation.
God, I've loved being the HoD for Grenada, but like I said, all good things must come to an end. I hope that whoever takes her after me keeps her in good hands and doesn't spam Shygirl please and thank chew. xoxoxo thank you for 2 aqs and my first aq in an own contest. Grenada, I love you so much
