After getting a pre-last placement of the semi-final and being forced to compete in the quarter-final,  Eritrean Television (Eri-TV) 's headquarter was full of eggs and banana skins thrown by angry fans of Onesimos. The delegation team had to evacuate to Senhit's guesthouse and settle a temporary meeting there.
The broadcaster is on the thin ice as Onesimos's results led into the lowest viewership ever achieved of the program in Eritrea. The meeting found a very ambivalent opinion regarding the country's future in the contest. However, Senhit decided to sponsor the team and therefore, we have enough budget to confirm our participation in  DR Congo. Ladies, gentlemen and gentle people, give a warm welcome for . . .
Arig 
Arig is an Eritrean-Australian R&B singer. She grew up the daughter of a single immigrant mother from Eritrea, who came to Australia on her own at a very young age. According to herself, her journey to Australia is a tale of resilience and aspiration. Growing up in challenging circumstances, her passion for music became her sanctuary. A serendipitous encounter with a jazz musician in Brisbane kickstarted her musical career, eventually leading to her debut EP, "Attrition." Earning her recognition from a host of acclaimed online blogs, including Pirates, Acclaim, Tone Deaf, and more.
In 2020, Arig broadened her artistic horizons with the genre-spanning single "Whine With It," which found a place on Spotify's esteemed Afro Beats playlist, Afrobeat's Global. Beyond music, her efforts included raising awareness about domestic abuse and participating in speaking engagements, including Amnesty International's 20th Write for Rights Anniversary, further amplifying her impact on crucial social issues. Arig was supposed to represent Eritrea back then in the 15th edition, but was later asked to wait as the sudden appearance of Jini and Aminé.
On May 27, she finally got a chance to represent her motherland as she was officially announced to the public as the Eritrean representative for the upcoming Africa-wide music competition. She will make our country proud with the song...

 Zambian artist revealDuring the Own Eurovision results show in  Serbia, the Zambian HoD claimed they would use the 1 hour between the show and Own Africavision confirmations to make their replacement video for their song. 60 hours later, this still has not happened yet. We can, however tell you which artists we will be sending to DR Congo for this edition...   El Mukuka  Can someone please show me how to add images properly? I can't add any and it's become the bane of my existence.Eleftherios Mukuka, more commonly known by his artist's name and nickname, "El Mukuka", is a Zambian artist born in Lusaka to a Zambian father and a Greek mother, a diverse cultural heritage which enriches his life and his music. This passion would lead him to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachussets, where pop and EDM elements would enter his repertoire. Forming a niche in the blend of electronic and traditional African music, he would soon rise to become one of Zambia's most respected musical artists. He resides in Madrid, Spain as well as his hometown of Lusaka, which has given him the budget to fly to three separate Own Africavisions (#01, #13, and now #17), and the ability to foot the expense of Zambia's massive overspending on hosting the last edition. He is multinational, claiming both Motswana through his mother and Zambian through his N'senga father, as highlighte in his Instagram bio. A talented multilinguist, he is also fluent in over 5 languages thanks to his background, as well as highly proficient in at least 5 more, a feat which the linguistics student who acts as the Zambian HoD is impressed by and aspires to match. With a truly unique voice, he will be sure to amaze the delegations of the Own Africavision Song Contest later this year in DR Congo!

• Niamey, Niger  For this edition Niger has decided to look back into its past participations and send a familiar face. Abdulhakim Hassane or otherwise known by his stage name as Hkeem was born in 1997 in the city of Oslo, Norway. He mostly expresses himself through a combination of rap and pop music. He started his career in 2016. He is of Ghanian and Nigerien descent. He has also participated twice before in OAfSC, once for Senegal with the song "Ghettoparasitt' in edition 14 and for Niger with the song "Klementin" in edition 15. This edition he's coming back to represent Niger with this.

Sao Tomean Entry.She tried to sing with the man U'Mad Bass in the 9th edition, then tried again with the man Carlos Besser in the 12th edition, now she felt sad and decided to sing solo. After last five editions of the contest for  Namibia was extremely unsuccessful and our broadcaster NBC made a decision.
NBC said: ''Namibia doesn't have a big industry of music and we can see that it's very hard to send a song that people are going to love it. We have been sending ballads, afro-beats, up-tempo, pop songs but almost all of them were smashed into small pieces. Also, we are not very happy about how contest is going. Last six months we talked a lot of our future in the contest. Our final decision is not made yet.''
We can confirm that the decision for this edition will be made in the upcoming days...
Stay with Namibia and give some recommendations for some new artists.

No permanent placements are available. You may enter the standby list with either Saint Helena and Ceuta/Melilla, and you'll enter the contest in the event that less than 48 countries participate. Keep in mind that there is no borrowing though. You may also wish to wait in the event someone permanently withdraws from the contest and a more desirable country becomes free Also as a message for shax, if you saw my last post to you, ignore it now because the council is happy to accept your entry. |

The world's eyes are on Congo-Kishasa
Thanks to the incredible performance by  Lova Lova in Lusaka, we are finally going back to the nation where this contest got their start. With that in mind, the next Kinshasa-Congolese representative who will represent our nation on home soil has been confirmed. The Kinshasa-Congolese head of delegation Ashelyn Kiteko can confirm that the artist has agreed to participate, and we will gladly re-introduce them to the rest of the world.
That's right. For only the second time in the 17 editions of the contest, we are calling upon an artist who has represented us in the past. And what better band to follow up the DIY Afropunk stylings of Lova Lova than our representative in  Bissau all the way back in October of 2020? The quintet of vocalist/percussionist Julien Makarabianco Nzaku, guitarist Dido Oweke, bassist Boms Bomolo and vocalist Love Lokombe, and the producer  Xavier Thomas (better known as Débruit), known best as the DIY Afropunk band KOKOKO! have accepted the call to represent the nation on home soil. The band, who hail from the Ngwaka neighborhood of Kinshasa, have been a staple of the local scene. Despite having the worst result by a representative of the DRC (at 14th place in the semi), the band has experience so much growth as a band. Almost immediately after being a representative in Bissau, they were featured on both the GTA 5 and FIFA 22 soundtracks, played at SXSW, and so much more. Decked in their signature yellow jumpsuits, the band has brought not just some of the hottest beats coming out of Kinshasa to the rest of the world, but also redefined what it means to be a DIY band and has continued to push the envelope of what is possible for artists to create.
The band themselves are a testimate to the resolve of the Congolese people. The richest nation in the world in terms of mineral wealth, the legacy of colonialism still stains the nation. In a voiceover, the band said that "our raw materials are stolen, all our riches are taken from us. They're used to build technologies elsewhere... When the world is done with our products, they come back here worn out. We use the trash to create instruments. There's no need for words. Our instruments are the message." Likewise, Débruit, the most outspoken of the members said that because of the situation within the nation, with a short life expectancy and a frustrating political situation forces the artists to seize the opportunities they have.
Débruit was initially invited to the DRC to learn about the music community, not anticipating to become as integrated into the community as he has become. The band themselves have said that the city inspires them all. Each different street seller have their own noisy signal. The cacophony of the city has found it's way into all of their songs.
When Débruit was asked about whether or not the band would be where they are without him in the band, as a white Western electronic musician, he said "Electronic music, its most important generators, come from black communities where it’s techno, house, drum and bass, jungle. This is the music coming from Detroit, Chicago or the U.K. It’s a challenge, and I totally understand how it can look with institutional racism in the music industry. For us it was really just about the music to start with. Obviously I’ve been making the music and releasing records and doing collaboration for 10 years, so I could act to accelerate the process with my network, and from there it became something that we just knew should happen."
Bomolo, the primary craftsman of the band, uses everything from engine parts to tin cans to whisky bottles and everything in between to create their own instruments. Beginning by immitating instruments that exist, they then expanded to unique instruments that only they have. The group have forged their own path through the mass of rumba that dominates the Congolese music scene to deliver something completely unique and something only they can do.
“Just to be given this opportunity once again after so long is incredibly humbling. We truly love performing, and though we may not have had the results we wanted, it is what it is." Lokombe said in an interview with RTNC.
“We are so excited to participate,” He then continued, "As a group, we have grown so much in the past few years, and the band we are now is nowhere near the band you saw in Bissau."
"When RTNC contacted us about potentially performing in the contest once again, we discussed what song to send in. We settled on Mokili, as everything just lined up too perfectly," Bomolo chimed in, "It is a song from our sophomore album which we are releasing in July, and Mokili is about moving the world so much that it’s going to tip over sort of. This track was a track we were used to trying live in a more improvised way, we never got the chance to record till recently where we added the right touch for the studio. It was the last addition to our album BUTU and became the first single, so it’s really fresh. It has obviously influences from Kinshasa but also Kwaito and 90’s dance music. In Kivu, so many atrocities are occuring, and as a band that is so focused on fighting the systemic issues that exist across the nation, having a song about forcing change is everything we could ever hope for it to be and more."
The song they will perform will be sung in Lingala . This will mark the sixth appearance of Lingala, following "L.O.V.E.",  "Muanapoto",  "Bâton magique", "No No No", and "Mambu."

Unfortunately, as we are here to celebrate African music in Congo-Kinshasa, it is important to note that in Kivu, there is a genocide that is ongoing, largely as a flare-up of the 1994 Rwandan genocide. Paramilitary groups, such as M23, are trying to control the cobalt and coltan mines that are located in Kivu, creating atrocities in their wake. M23, who is backed by the UAE and Kigali, are not representative of Rwanda and the DRC as a whole. If you are able to, us here in the OAUB are encouraging donations to organizations who are working to end the suffering of the Congolese people in Kivu. Some of these organizations include Save the Children, Action Kivu, the Eastern Congolese Initiative, and the Panzi Foundation. Likewise, Sudan is also going through a genocide as well. Save the Children also works over there, as well as the Sudan Relief Fund. If you are able, please consider donating to help these families through these times of horrendous conflict. If you aren't able to donate, please continue to speak up for these vulnerable people.
