First up is Toylet Swiffer ( Lᴇꜰ). JuPaul:Well duh! Any challenge asking for iconic K-Pop songs would be incomplete without this legendary whopper. 2NE1 remain an iconic girlgroup and this is their signature song, rightfully so! I doubt it required much brainpower to think of this song but that's for a good reason, as it's probably the best choice for a 2nd Gen song. Jojo Siwa:Well yeah, obviously. The legacy of this song is nothing short of legendary. It's such an obvious pick, but that is quite literally what we asked for. This truly does highlight the legacy of kpop, and it's iconic in it's own right. There aren't many better choices for this challenge. Not my personal favorite song, though. Juliet Dallin:Catchy, imposing, visually striking, and coming from one of the most acclaimed k-pop groups of all time? check, check and most definitely check. it's probably top 5 or top 10 in regards of iconicness overall, and no one can debate 2ne1's legendary status. Marina Satti:Probably one of the two songs I know from that line up, and I can’t say it’s not iconic. I enjoyed the beat a lot and it was such an earworm. Good job Andrélle:Sounds like a fork in garbage disposal, but the koreaboos said this is like objectively iconic so.. good job?

Up next is Kuchi-San ( david). Juliet Dallin:Definitely one of the most hyped debuts of the time, but i feel like twice has had more songs that had much greater impact upon k-pop in my opinion. also kinda aged a bit, but that dance break still remains top tier regardless. Jojo Siwa:Sending TWICE for this challenge is basically easy mode: the vast majority of their classic tracks both slap and are perfect for the challenge. But girl, Like Ooh-Aah? I get that it's their debut, but it's literally one of their least iconic songs. Where's Cheer Up, Signal, TT, Likey, or Fancy? If you wanted something a bit less obvious Feel Special and Dance the Night Away are right there. This sorely misses the mark for me and it's a pretty mid ass song too. Andrélle:Didn't really like this sorry, found it slightly annoying too. JuPaul:I actually quite like this song. It even was my debut entry for OASC back in like 2015. That being said, in a challenge asking for iconic songs, this is kinda goofy to me. Twice have been so successful and have so many iconic songs and while this is a cute song, it feels like wasted potential, both in terms of Twice's discography and especially in the context of the entire 3rd Generation, arguably the era that created the most legendary groups. Fancy or Feel Special would've probably gotten a 10 from me, other iconic choices were mentioned before by Jojo. I think choosing this song was a bit of self-sabotage and you let your feelings cloud your judgment. Marina Satti:It’s sad to see you in that position, but this week your song didn’t make any impact. I get the personal connection to it, but it could be stronger for you.

Third in line is the lovely Miz Bulge Area ( alex(a)bg). Andrélle:BANGER! Lisa rinna m&m is objectively more iconic than any of these groups. Marina Satti: I wasn’t too fond of your entry this week. You could’ve done way better than that. It’s sad your potential are higher than that. Let’s hope you’ll be back next week and stronger. JuPaul:While this is a cute song, I feel like it misses the point of the challenge. This challenge sought to replay the history of K-Pop, showing what exactly makes K-Pop iconic and unique. This song however, while it's a good song, doesn't really showcase that. It's kind of exactly the type of song I'd expect from an SCF user who doesn't know much about K-Pop. The clear selling point of this song is a sample from a 70s Disco anthem. Without that sample, the song wouldn't be half as good, which shows that this song isn't really iconic in its own right, it's riding the coattails of a more iconic song. If you had sent Love Dive I would've given you a good score but After Like just isn't the right song for this challenge in my opinion. And acting like it's better than I Will Survive is blasphemous!! Jojo Siwa:So it's no secret that I am NOT a fan of IVEm they've yet to really drop anything I'd call a smash. Objectively though, they are one of the few 4th gen groups capable of sharing a space with names like 2NE1, SES, EXO, etc. However, choosing After Like instead of the objectively more iconic and better Love Dive is just so ? After Like had a moment when it came out, but it's not going to be remembered over the rest of IVE's track like Love Dive or maybe even I Am. A big miss for me. Juliet Dallin:ive definitely started to make their mark upon k-pop, and after like is an alright pick for the challenge in my book. i do love the approach they took for the sample here, kept things interesting but also very close to ive's sound. looking at the competition however, this feels a bit like it gets the shorter end of the stick in regards of expectations coming with this round. it's a decent pick, but doesn't tick all the boxes that we expected.

We now move on to Estrogennifer ( Alper). Jojo Siwa:Kpoppies please rise for our national anthem. This song holds a special place in the heart of any long time kpop stan, it's symbolic of so much. Not only is it so important for Girl's Generation, arguably the most iconic girl group in history, but it's also become the de facto song for a rookie group to cover to show their determination. It's not the best song I've ever heard, but it'll always make me a bit sentimental. Marina Satti:Cute song, though I can’t say I liked that you changed your song after you posted. But still a nice try well done. Andrélle:This was absolutely lovely, really enjoyed this! Much better than your first choice. JuPaul:Personally I actually enjoyed your first song more than this one ijbol. I recognize that this one is more iconic but The Boys is my favorite GG song so... either way this was a good choice, it's obviously one of the most iconic K-Pop songs and even if it's not my favorite, it's quite lovely! Juliet Dallin:i may have to disagree with some of the jury members on this one, i assume some would prefer other songs from girls generation, but in terms of iconic and legendary, their debut is definitely up there. i think that's probably one of the most important debuts in k-pop history overall, which would shape 2nd generation's sound later on. may have aged, sure, but doesn't take off its importance. great pick

We say hello to Mel A Tonin ( Matt). Marina Satti:I know I’m not the best when it comes to kpop knowledge but I know your task was the hardest. That’s it though. Your song was the weakest in my opinion and I didn’t enjoy it much. I know it was hard, but someone had to take gen1 and unfortunately you were the one taking the bullet. Juliet Dallin:1st generation was probably the most tough to find a proper contender, but i think you did a decent job with picking this one. s.e.s are arguably one of the more fondly remembered groups of its time, with this song getting "revived" some decades later by aespa covering it. definitely a staple of the k-pop era of late 90's and early 00's. JuPaul:You had the hardest task this week and managed to select one of the few songs that still (mostly) hold up today! Dreams Come True is such a pretty song and it has a vibe of nostalgia even if you weren't around when this song hit the scene. Perfect choice from you this week luv! Andrélle:Loved this! Being assinged Gen 1 really worked for you, I thought this was very sweet and nostalgic. Jojo Siwa:Getting Gen 1 is rough simply because much of the Gen 1 music absolutely does not hold up, but bitch you did the damn thing. This was one of the best possible choices you could have made this week. It's a great song, and there's no questioning whether or not it deserves a place in the Kpop pantheon. Leg. End. Dary.

And finally, it's time for Dee Ablah ( Argüello). Jojo Siwa:I'm a LOONA girlie through and through. They're the reason I'm into kpop in the first place but... really? We asked for legendary kpop songs, and let's be real, the only people who are still listening to this are western gay people who are still trying to cope with the fact that LOONA didn't become the global sensation that was prophesized. And if we're being real, this song doesn't really deserve to be held up alongside the genuine kpop royalty otherwise submitted to this challenge. Juliet Dallin:i do appreciate the sentimental value coming from dee's presentation, but looking at the rest of the songs submitted for the challenge, this one didn't raise up to the mark we were expecting to see. international hype? definitely. local hype? here's where it falls short and it falls big time. Andrélle:Not a fan sorry, I found this very annoying. Marina Satti:I didn’t enjoy the song that much. It wasn’t a good choice song wise, and as I’m told it failed to hit the challenge’s task as well. Fingers crossed you’ll come back stronger JuPaul:LOONA is one of those groups whose online hype never really translated to equal real life success, so I think from that POV they were always a bit of a risky choice. To me, their fanbase's behavior is more memorable than most of their music really. This particular song doesn't really meet the "iconic" criteria at all, for me. It was released 6 years ago and it's already largely gone and forgotten if we're gonna be honest. If you were determined to send Loona then some other song might've been a more iconic choice, maybe PTT or Butterfly? Either way, this song is also just not that good, regardless of whether it's iconic or not.
