Arbasoen ipuinak
"Arbasoen ipuinak" is the slogan chosen by the Andorran broadcaster along with the NBU for this edition.
This edition's theme is based on the motif of the Eguzkilore, also known as the "sunflower" or "sun wheel," a traditional symbol in Basque culture. It is typically a dried thistle, specifically the Carlina acaulis, that is often hung on doors to protect homes from evil spirits and misfortune. This protective amulet is believed to ward off witches, demons, and other malevolent forces, ensuring safety and good fortune for those who display it.
Arbasoen ipuinak is "Ancestors' tales" in Basque. It is inspired by ZETAK's winning entry retelling the tale of the Lady of Aralar, named Mari. She is the goddess of weather in Basque mythology. She lives deep in the caves of the Aralar Mountains. One time, two people went to search for Mari, finding her combing her hair in front of two golden candles. The two people took the golden candles home and carefully storing it, only for the candles to become frogs the next day. There is so much in ancient folklore and we think this contest is a great opportunity to retell the tales of the seemingly forgotten.
Bilbao, a dynamic city in Basque Country, is a cultural hub that beautifully blends tradition with modernity. The city is a center of Basque culture, known for its distinct language, Euskara, and a rich culinary tradition featuring pintxos, a type of Basque tapas. Bilbao's transformation from an industrial port city to a cultural capital is epitomized by the iconic Guggenheim Museum, alongside vibrant festivals and events that celebrate Basque heritage. The city's Old Town (Casco Viejo) and bustling markets showcase local crafts and customs, making Bilbao a fascinating destination for experiencing Basque culture in a contemporary urban setting.
The edition's host venue is the Bilbao Arena. Located in the centre of Bilbao, it has a capacity of roughly 10,000 people occupying 25,985 square metres of land and has a striking green design. It has hosted numerous major sports events before, such as the 2011 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship. It has also hosted a couple of music concerts from local popstars, such as Pablo Alborán.
Three exceptional people have been chosen to host the shows:
Sofía Coll (she/her) is an extravagant singer from Barcelona that has recently emerged into the Catalan music scene thanks to her participation in Eufòria and Benidorm Fest.
Jon Kortajarena (he/him) is a model that requires no introduction. Born in Bilbao, he is the perfect option to host this event to an international public.
Pello Reparaz (he/him), known to North Vision fans for winning last edition as the main producer and face of the band ZETAK, will also be hosting the show.
