Miz Bulge AreaI usually dislike challenges of the "send a X (genre) song" sort, because most of the times the prompt is arbitrary.
anyway, after the semi-disaster of the last challenge, I have decided to step it up, take a risk and do something more left field.
Minimalist track
Eusexua FKA twigs
(YouTube link will be provided soon)
when I think of minimalist music, it is usually something electronic-adjacent. minimalist music is characterised by repeating patterns, constant and simple tonality, and gradual build up. the new FKA twigs song, which I would best describe as minimal techno and ambient pop, fits all of these characteristics.
Maximalist track
Scripture Eartheater
on the other hand we have maximalist music which I also associate with electronic music. maximalist tracks feature a lot of layering, i.e., instruments and/or vocals playing simultaneously, and a rapid change of sound. Eartheater's Scripture, which also kinda ties to the previous track as she actually does some adlibs in Euseuxa, is a track that I would also describe as maximalist.

season 9 episode 11
so pretty much the music that i listen to is very eccentric very a lot very MAXIMA💜list so finding something minimalist was quite the struggle, anyways just to like give you, the judges, a prologue for my choices
minimalism "hide and seek" - imogen heap
is this her most popular song? well yes of course. but is it minimalist? absolutely, quite the definition actually. all this song features is her voice and autotune. the whole ideology about minimalism is that less is more. this song doesnt NEED anything else, it is good utilization of something that is close to nothing. i tried to find something that imitates what imogen heap did with this song, but there was nothing as good as this honestly, and i am not going to step up here and serve you something subpar and undiscovered when the wheel has been invented already by one miss imogen heap yes yes yes!
maximalism "BITCH YOU COULD NEVER" - yseult
i did not know at first that this was the same yseult from FC and the olympics, like talk about duality of woman!
anyways, to me maximalism is about excess and just use as much as you can, fuck less is more, there shant be a moment of silence and all moments shall be loud and noise. it still needs to be aesthetically cohesive, and i feel yseult does this very well actually with this piece. she utilizes everything, her voice, production & lyricism. bitch you could never!!

MEL A TONIN S9 E11: Give Us Everything & Nothing! Minimalism Sampha - (No One Knows Me) Like the Piano
A song that is absolutely love and adore, and is the definition of minimalism. It is just a man, his vocals and his piano that carries this song through. It is such an elegant song that always makes me reconsider everything whilst being truly minimalist on its production. And his vocals are incredible, with very few effects needed to show them off. Maximalism
HARU NEMURI - narashite In the complete opposite I present Haru Nemuri. Japan is the place where excess in music is found the most, and the complex layering, vocals and overall production of "narashite" just screamed maximalism for me. Its a risk but I think this song is just truly excessive yet still very listenable.

S09E11: The polar opposites
I am so fucking pissed this wifi just made me lose all of my written text
Eva Máziková was in the top last week, but she really wants that win!!!
Eva's two songs are quite the opposites not only in minimalist/maximalist approach, but in many other things too!!!
The song choice for MINIMALISM is... RY X - Only!!!
The song choice for MAXIMALISM is... Wednesday Campanella - Buckingham!!!
Only is a heart-breaking love song about giving yourself away while the feeling of love numbs you, it tells a story of how the artist is unable to fully commit as the numbness slowly eats him alive. It's a beautiful song produced in a minimalist way, combining guitar with haunting vocals and creating a great experience.
Buckingham is a fun song that highlights the irony of how the location of Kyuuden (meaning palace) is the only place without an actual palace, while naming many other palaces in the world. It also plays with the words referring to Kyuuden, the location specifics you can find on Wikipedia and how us humans sometimes use language to contradict our own ideas. The production is very layered and mesmerizing as well, giving the song a lot of energy.
The two songs show us very two different approaches to music and hold many differences between each other - whether it's the acoustic vs synthetic sides, or the topic at hand, they are both excellent songs. What can I say, Eva just wanted to give you some variety!!!
