'Music for everyone' or 'unique music'?

So I have an interesting question;

First off I must say that I haven't
participated in as many contest as
most of you did yet. I always sent
songs I really like and always reached
bottom places/didn't reach the final.

I always saw songs winning which were from ESC National
Finals, international hits or songs which
won 'other' contests before.

This time I tried something different
in NVSC: I took a song which I don't
like and which was similar to a famous
song. And still; nobody likes it

I don't want you to force you to vote
or something. I wanted to ask you
what your opinion is:

Should I send international hits or
songs that won before or should
I send songs which I like and I
think of they're really unique?
