LOREEN
Early life
Lorine Zineb Nora Talhaoui was born in Stockholm, Sweden in 1983. Her parents were Moroccan Berber who immigrated to Sweden. Her family then moved to Västerås, west of Stockholm.
Idol
Loreen took part in Swedish Idol 2004 competing as Lorén Talhaoui. Loreen was eliminated during the qualification round after placing 3rd by the public vote, but she then received a wildcard from the judges, therefore allowing her to continue competing in the competition.
Melodifestivalen 2011
Loreen competed in Melodifestivalen 2011 with the song "My Heart Is Refusing Me". After placing 4th in Semi Final 2, she competed in the Andra Chansen (Second Chance) round. But she was eliminated in the first round after losing to Sara Varga's song "Spring för livet". Although "My Heart Is Refusing Me" became a hit on Swedish Singles Charts after peaking at number 9.
Melodifestivalen 2012 & Eurovision 2012
Loreen returned to compete in Melodifestivalen 2012 with the song "Euphoria". She ended up winning Melodifestivalen 2012 and won the rights to represent Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku, Azerbaijan. Going into ESC 2012 as the big favourite it was no surprise that she actually won the whole contest with a staggering 372 points. Although it is not the highest amount of points ever in Eurovision, she did get the record for the most 12 points received, with a total of 18 countries awarding "Euphoria" the infamous douze points. "Euphoria" ended up becoming an international hit in not only Europe, but also in Australia. Euphoria reached no.1 in about 17 countries and reaching the top 10 in several other countries. Euphoria reached no.3 on the UK Singles Charts, the highest chart position for non-UK eurovision entry since Johnny Logan's song "Hold Me Now" in 1987. Euphoria also reached number 36 on the ARIA Charts in Australia, and debuting at number 4 on the ARIA Dance Charts.
Heal
Heal is Loreen's debut album, released on the 24th of October, 2012. Popular tracks from the album include, "Euphoria", "My Heart Is Refusing Me" and "Crying Out Your Name". My Heart Is Refusing Me was re-released on the 8th of October, 2012 and reached no.4 in Finland, no.18 in Switzerland as well as entering the top 50 of many other charts in Europe. The album itself enjoyed success throughout many European countries, reaching no.1 in Belgium and Sweden, no.5 in Estonia, no.6 in Finland, no.7 in Switzerland as well as entering the top 50 in many other charts across Europe.
