So, my family is heavily German on my mother's mother's side. "Reichert" is the surname, very German. I always thought that it was relatives from like the 18th century who brought my line of ancestry over, but the other day I was surpised to discover that my German roots were planted here likely less than 100 years ago.
The other day I found out that my great-great-great grandfather is the one who immigrated from Germany: His name was Emery Reichert. I don't know which region he was from, though. I should have asked my great-grandpa- I will next time.
And you know WHY he left Germany?
His father, my great-great-great-great grandfather. Was HANGED! Why? Because he was a highwayman! He robbed people and did all sorts of crap, and he got hanged for it which caused his son to flee Germany in shame! I really, desperately want to know his name, but going off of a surname and the name of his son, there isn't much I can do. I don't think "Reichert" is a very common surname, and I'd assume that there would be records of his hanging no matter if he was "famous" or not. If I could find people named "Reichert" hanged in...well, I don't know when. Since my great-grandpa was born in the 1920s, Emery's father was probably hanged between 1880 & 1900.
For any Germans on here, is there a way to find out my great-great-great grandfather's name with this information? I know his surname, his son's name, and what he was hanged for (highwayman), but I'm certain that any information I find will be in German...I don't speak German :/

I can also search for it Wow you have a very tragic family history Btw Reichert is not the most common name but neither the most unused name. I heard it several times before but it isn't "overused" like Müller, Meier or Schneider

Also I wanted to say that I never heard "Emery". This name isn't German!I googled for the name and found out this: Herkunft: Althochdeutsch Sprache: Englisch Bedeutung » amals = tüchtig, tapfer (Gothisch) rihhi = reich, mächtig, die Macht, die Herrschaft, der Herrscher (Althochdeutsch) It is German But it says that the name is English but has its origins in the ancient German language... I dunno if this even helps.
