Globally, it's the description of old friends from Algeria who dreamt about a utopic Algeria after they won their independance over France. It takes place after Islamists won the elections, and they remember the time when they made fun of Iranians mollah who wanted to get back the Middle-Age, and now that Islamist are going to lead Algeria, they don't laugh anymore. All the protagonists talking here regret the fact that they won "Before we lived poorly but at least we lived", "I still don't believe it. What will they make of us?" "I stayed in my bed all(day-long when I learnt the results" (a woman talked) Politics are regretting that elections because they realized that it's going to be a unique party election like USSR or PRC. Some people even hopped that a military putsch would stop them. I wont translate everything because it's too long but I hope it'll help you understand
