There has always been something that made me sad : the "war" between and about this name : Macedonia!
A little history :
At the origins, Greece and Macedonia are distinct countries. Macedonia invaded Greece (and half of the world by the way).
We see on this map that only a few part of Antique Macedonia was situated in
In Roman Empire, half of was Macedonia, and some parts did go in and South of .
In Byzantine Empire, Macedonia was neither in greek Macedonia nore in
Today, 3 countries share Macedonia :
If chose this name, it is because it was already its name when it was in Yugoslavia. Its former name was South Serbia, after Serbia invaded a part of Macedonia and shared it with and
So took the name of a part of a region, and this is what disturbs Greek Macedonians.
This could have ended with peace but made the error to appropriate the past of Alexander's Macedonia, choosing the Vergina's star (Vergina Süper star would say Sibel Tüzün) on its former flag.
There is still today a conflict between and
So, what do you think it should be?
Call this country Macedonia even if it has nothing to compare with Alexander's Macedonia?
Call this country Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, and considering as an "almost country" and making remember the sad past of Yugoslavia?
I personaly think there must be another way. If accepts they are not the same country than Antique Macedonia and accepts they deserve the title of Macedonians, even if they don't speak Greek, they could bear each other and everything could go better.
If I was president of , I would call my country "High Macedonia" : it is true, they are in the northern part of Macedonia, and it would stop seeing as the whole Macedonia.
What is your opinion?
