Canal Algérie is currently searching for songs to compete in NVSC.
But of course, the participation of
Algeria will be quite different than other countries.Indeed, the main category of music present in
Algeria are "raï artists".Raï is a type of music that appeared in the 20's and started to be extremely successful (there are even some radios broadcasting it all day !)
It originally mixed some drum, saxophone and guitar melodies, which were added to poets' works.
Nowadays, it is more likely to hear it with some rock or funk tonalities
(like
Cheb Khaled does for example)Even though raï music can sound "aggressive" for some people, it generally has a very catchy rhythm,
and the mix between voices and music usually goes to very good results.
But as you may know, there aren't a lot of artists of this type in
Algeria, and some songs are just impossible to take(mainly because they were realized before 2000).
So,
Canal Algérie would like to know the general opinion before working on the selection.Some other options are conceivable, such as borrowing a lot of french R&B artists, but the broadcaster rather thinks
that raï would add some color to the contest.
Now, it's up to you to decide !
