My picture:
The Song:
And now a little explanation;
The first thing I look at is the setting. It is a bridge leading out into darkness, the galaxy. First thing I came up with was that it would represent loneliness, as it'd be a place to get away from it all; the people, life itself. Why do I think it'd be loneliness? Because in the lyrics, Gilbert is singing about the past when his father and mother passed away:
''Looking back over the years
And whatever else that appears
I remember I cried when my father died
Never wishing to hide the tears
And at sixty-five years old
My mother, God rest her soul
Couldn't understand why the only man
She had ever loved had been taken
Leaving her to start
With a heart so badly broken
Despite encouragement from me
No words were ever [Spoken]
And when she passed away
I cried and cried all day''.
And I am pretty sure, the place would be just the place to be alone and to reflect on the moments. However, the bridge MAY also symbolize the sadness anyways; reflected in the lyrics HERE:
''Will throw myself off
In an effort to
Make it clear to whoever
Wants to know what it's like
When you're shattered
Left standing in the lurch at a church
Were people saying, My God, that's tough
She stood him up
No point in us remaining
We may as well go home
As I did on my own''.
Represents that he wants to show people how hard it is to see if, when at a wedding, the wife will actually say no to the husband. He wants to show that to people who care to understand the pain he may have gone through.
But also, the song can represent the fact that the picture seems that no one is there with you, and so it'd mean you're alone again, but it'd be natural.
Not so little actually, but there you go
