at those gifs. I don’t get why that was done and am happy that I've seen them this morning underway to work. Where has the hype about it suddenly come from?

Where has the hype about it suddenly come from? I don't know. Betta Lemme finished only 14th of Mondevision Song Contest 4 when I used her for Quebec (with the song she made with Sofi Tukker). I'm glad I don't have to vote in a contest where Bambola is in and I wish I won't have to. The melody and the lyrics of Bambola by Patty Pravo have been partially re-used in this song, enough to make me immediately think about it when I listen to Betta's song (it was a deja vu at first listening for the intro but I immediately made the connection as soon as I heard "Come se fossi una bambola..."). And Bambola is not a random song but a very big standard of Italian music (and even French, as Patty Pravo and Dalida sang it also in French). I would feel more comfortable if I knew if Patty Pravo claimed (or already obtained) rights on this song.

When you use a part of the work of another artist (significant enough to be recognised), he/she has rights on it. If you present the whole song as yours, and don't credit the original artist, there is a risk that the owners of rights of the work you used claim for a compensation or even ask the court to remove your song from the market. The core of the debate to determine if the borrowed part is significant enough, so there is a part of subjectivity.
