Rotterdam, ending an Italian qualification streak that rivaled that of Denmark and Sweden, RAI announced a change in direction, which is where the broadcaster's second historical feat comes ahead. RAI has always been renowned for having no artist getting the opportunity to fly the flag more than once.Tonight - that changes.
BETTA LEMME - GIVE IT
Betta Lemme was born in Montréal, Canada on 30 April 1993 to two Italian parents. She speaks Italian fluently, alongside French and English and a fourth undisclosed tongue.
In the span of a year since her musical fruition, she has managed to gain over 50.000 new followers on her Instagram, further assisted by her modelling career.
Betta previously represented Italy in the twenty-fourth edition of the contest with one of Europe's hits of 2018, "Bambola". Despite being one of the odds-on favourites for the crown, she still managed to place tenth. This has since given her many opportunities to further her career from an Italian base.
"Give It" is a futuristic dance-pop song that has been described as "Britney Spears meets Nine Inch Nails". In preparation for the release, Lemme asked her fans to tell her their secrets, which is what is alluded to by the pink door in the official music video. The track was written by Lemme herself alongside Rick Markowitz (who also co-wrote "Bambola" and produced the track under his moniker, SmarterChild).
Betta herself wants to "paint the town pink", describing the song as "powerful" and "cinematic", realising its stark contrast with Bambola. She added that the song was created as she "began playing parts of my guitar that aren't used for recording and scraping my nails against the strings off of the fretboard."
The song is about realising all the fears, hopes and anxieties that we keep secret, and what would happen if they come out to play out in the open. It is the first song in Italian history to feature a foreign language (French) but not Italian.
RAI are extremely happy to have Betta back on board, furthermore after she showed interest in competing again on her social media in July. "Give It" was released with the contest in mind.
