This is total bullshit, the virus will most likely have peaked in Europe by May and even if not, Eurovision (even behind closed doors) would have been the morale booster that everybody needed. Everything is getting cancelled but people NEED something to help keep them going, this is going to end horribly on the mental health front.
Look at China. They even tried to deny it and held mass banquets which further incubated it. Under control within 6 weeks.
South Korea. Brought under control within 2 weeks.
Either Europe's media is trying to stir up hysteria or the European health care systems are really shit because some reason they are expecting it to last until August?
Fuck I'm done with this bullshit glorified flu paranoia. People die of other nasty viruses every single day and we don't go into this much of a frenzy.
Listen, what we need the most right now is a vaccine and not a morale booster and until we get that we have to make ABSOLUTELY sure that the vulnerable people within our communities are not getting sick and die from the stupidity of others. If that means cancelling the one event that brings us all joy, I'd rather cancel Eurovision indefinitely than risk the lives of the people I love. I don't know if you don't care, are just too young to understand it or whatever you're problem is right now but the best thing to do right now is to #FlattenTheCurve so that the people that are infected/will get infected in the future can get the medical treatment they need. That means staying at home AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE and listen to the governments and health authorities in your area/country.
I don't know if you know this but China got the virus under control by isolating the provinces most infected with the virus. They Chinese government didn't handle this all willy-nilly at did nothing, they shut down almost everything and built up infrastructure as quickly as they could to prevent the spread of the virus.
South Korea tested A LOT of people within a short amount of time and cut down on public life as well, as have other Asian countries (Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong).
The European health care systems aren't shit but no health care system in this world is built to deal with so many patients with the exact same symptoms in such a short amount of time, while still having to deal with everything else. No illness has stopped just because Corona is now here, people still have cancer, broken limbs, other respiratorial diseases etc. A health care system isn't build to deal with even 10% of the population being sick AT ONCE, that is why so many governments in Europe and around the world are taking the measure they are taking. WE HAVE TO MAKE SURE THAT THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM DOENS'T COLLAPSE. Because if the health care system collpases anywhere, we are fucked. Plain and simple.
Personally, I couldn't give two shits about what you think right now. If you think this isn't shit, go ahead with your normal life. But if you are infected your better pray to every existing god on this planet that health care is your country works because frankly, Corona doesn't give a shit. It kills. If you believe in its severity or not.
Yes other viruses kill people every day, but 1. most of these viruses aren't NEARLY as dangerous as Corona is currently to so many people 2. they aren't so easy to catch and 3. virologists and others are trying their best to find a cure and to prevent the spread as much as possible.
How do you think East Africa overcame Ebola? The US the AIDS epidemic? Not through doing nothing, I can tell you that.
You know why people rarely die from the common flu? measels? chickenpox? Because we have vaccines against these. Once we have a vaccine for Corona, we can all go back to living our merry lives, but until then each and everyone of us is responsible that this virus spreads as little as possible and that means isolating ourselves as much as possible and missing out on some major events, but if we can save even one person through that, I am more than happy to do what it takes. I hope you are too. Maybe not for yourself, but for your grandparents.
