In Mexico schools are closing after this week, all massive events got cancelled and some workplaces are also starting to shut down, but mostly the situation seems waaaaaay too calmed, which is scary conidering how fast the virus can spread We have 95 confirmed cases so far, one week ago we barely had above 20.

Very uplifting news from Hubei. 0 new cases reported in the last 24 hours. We may be 6 weeks or so behind China but it goes to show that this can be brought under control. Hopefully this will die down soon and summer 2020 can be somewhat saved If they cancel Þjóðhátíð and the Olympics I'm gonna put myself in a coma until 2021

Moreover, for the first time, China announced that all the new daily cases were actually Chinese people coming back from other countries. All of them have been quarantined, like everybody who comes from another country.
But the best news come from my city, Marseille, where the team of Pr. Raoult - I already spoke about him a few days ago - confirmed the results of a Chinese study about the efficiency of hydroxychloroquin (a medicine originally used for malaria), especially when it is associated to a specific antibiotic: Azithromycin. Some of you might ask why an antibiotic would be used for a virus. There are actually two good reasons: during the epidemic of Spanish flu, most of people didn't die because of the virus itself, but because of a secondary bacterian infection, so taking this medicine prevents these infections to appear. And it also appears that this specific antibiotic was already found as efficient against other viruses. French government was pretty doubtful about hydroxychloroquin (because of side effects) but these results made him change his mind and other tests will be made at a larger scale. I personally trust Pr. Raoult more that those "scientists" (they don't deserve to be called like that in my opinion) who told that local elections in France could still happen with NO RISK despite the rapidly rising epidemic.
Hydroxychloroquin does have side effects but they seem to be secondary. Some patients who took this medicine during several years had macular degenerescence. Moreover, Pr. Raoult already tested this medicine with thousands of people - he leads a center specialised in tropical diseases - so I think he is quite aware of the right dosage to apply. And the results of the tests are quite impressive: most of the 24 people who received the treatment were cured within six days while other people with similar symptoms generally need 20 days - if the virus doesn't kill them before. According to me, this medicine (and other ones that would have similar effects) is the best short term solution to the problem (the long term solution being the vaccine) : if you are able to cure people in 6 days and not in 20 days, you can host more than three times more patients in your hospital, and also drastically reduce the number of them that would need to be treated in an intensive care unit.
Moreover, this medicine is abundant - already used for millions of people for malaria - and cheap. Maybe some countries will still hesitate and keep it in reserve in case of things turning really really wild but I'm pretty sure that African countries will use it as one of their main weapons against the virus. If you can't detect all the cases and if your health system is too light, you can still give the medicine away, telling people: "You are possibly infected by the virus. We can't be sure, because we can't afford the tests, but take this medicine. If it doesn't cure you, it won't kill you either. Come back if you are still sick in one week or if your symptoms are getting worse."

Lord, can you finally stop with those posts? First you've bothered everyone in Fantasia, now you went on to the off-topics with your mass hysteria. There's more people dying from the regular flu if we go with the medical aspect, and there's more people committing suicide if we go by anxiety and mental facts, also partially endorsed by the media. I was wrong for underestimating this virus. Please watch this video if you're still unconvinced, still determined that it's "just a flu". I've been subscribed to them for years now and their content has been ratified by many experts. Do what you can to not spread this new virus.

Okay so maybe I was in the wrong yesterday calling the cancellation bullshit. I'm effectively stuck in a foreign country for the forseeable future, everything is falling by the wayside and I just got pissed that Eurovision, the one thing we still had, getting cut off also. I'm not saying I think it is worse than I initially thought, the stats coming out of Iceland and our mass tests seem to suggest the exact opposite. But it is somewhat early to tell yet.
The issue is that while it may not be as lethal, it still is definitely damn contagious and could therefore still kill a lot just by sheer infection numbers, similar to swine flu in 2009. Approaches in South Korea, China & Taiwan have showed acting as hard as possible can control it much much quicker, and the situation in Italy shows just how bad waiting too late can make it. So yeah. If we have to put harder measures and cancel more now it should mean things can resume in the long run then so be it I suppose.
Its tough but we gotta stay hopeful and optimistic. This too will pass before we know it.

Japanese people waiting:
French people "waiting"...
