FiK and Sanremo could easily be kept going only without the Eurovision place this year, they both ran during periods when their countries didn't take part (Italy during their absence and Albania before they debuted) and with the exceptional circumstances of this year it seems the right thing to have that made clear for anyone willing to enter, and to allow Diodato & Arilena their chances.
If artists have to change their songs (likely but possibly not) then there would be no harm in holding mini NF's in the other countries where the national final is something of a smaller event
The tricky one is going to be Melfest sadly, it's almost as big as Eurovision itself and no way will Sweden want to cancel that. At the very least The Mamas should get a spot in the final

I can understand Sweden wanting to host Melodifestivalen again as its ratings are higher than Eurovision itself. I just hope The Mamas can have a final spot reserved in case they decide to try again next year

As for Italy they've also selected their 2014 entry internally.

I’d also add Festival do Cancao to that list, iirc it happened while Portugal was taking breaks from the contest

Well, now it's official, that the songs won't be the same... Countries with not so great songs can jump in the air from happiness, while for those smaller countries, that finally had something great to represent them, might not return as strong next year, which is devastating... I hope we'll let Samanta represent us next year, even if with worse song, because that would be a crime to make her compete again for the spot that she fought for for so long... although knowing Latvia, I expect Supernova will be present once again (with or without Samanta as a participant). Markus Riva fans definitely won't mind that...

Well, the one year we had a decent song, we can’t use it lol. I’m sad I won’t see my top 4 songs on stage. Tho I guess it gives another chance to countries with awful songs. It’s also sad because this year a lot of countries that have never won were doing well in the odds

I am so heartbroken for Ulrikke. She wanted to represent Norway so bad and as she won, she won't be taking part in ESC 2021... You can see in her winner's reprise in MGP how much it meant to her... But I guess, just like Melodifestivalen, San Remo etc. show must go on.

I strongly disagree with their decision regarding the songs, maybe it'd have been better if they gave the broadcaster the choice to pick their same entry or not

I’d also add Festival do Cancao to that list, iirc it happened while Portugal was taking breaks from the contest Actually, in 2013 and 2016 we did not have Festival da Canção. In 2013 because of the whole crisis didn't make sense to spend money on it and then not go to Eurovision. In 2016 FdC did not happen because the show was not having a lot of viewers nor good results in Eurovision so they decided to take a break and comeback with a new version of the NF in 2017 wich actually worked? Since 2017 the show regained a lot of viewers and now people see it again as a "tradition" completely ignoring the 2013-2017 period. Nowadays Festival da Canção doesn't work anymore as a pass to Eurovision. RTP invites the composers wich means some of them don't even care about Eurovision (Luísa and Salvador Sobral come to mind). With that, I am not saying Marta Carvalho and Elisa didn't want to be on the Eurovision stage but that wasn't their intention when they accepted RTP invitation to come to FdC. In my opinion, they should invite them to participate again and maybe a direct pass to the final should happen! If they would accept or not is up to question.
