NVSC is coming HOME!

Cologne, 26th July: Last night, USF33 came to an end and Lie Ning was announced as the winner with his song "Home". He managed to collect 160 points, the highest point total since the return of the NS, of which the Televoting contributed 87 points, the highest TV score ever. The top 3 were completed by Giant Rooks and Arlissa, returning band Frida Gold ended lower than expected.

Lie Ning is a 23 year old singer from Berlin. He's known for his beautiful, deep voice and emotional ballads, which usually combine classical instruments with electronic elements, as well as his androgynous image. While he's still relatively unknown in the German music scene, he attracted attention from many music blogs already, who all praise him as an underground artist on the rise. Other than being a musician, Lie Ning is also vocal on social issues. In the past, he mentioned that his roots are "half white, half west African", which played a part while growing up in Germany, experiences that he discusses every now and then. During the Black Lives Matter protests, that started in the USA, he and Diane Izabiliza, another black singer, wrote a "love letter to the black community", in which they talked about growing up with racism and the progress they'd like to see our society achieve when it comes to the issue. Additionally, Lie Ning is also openly gay, meaning he's the first LGBTQ+ POC artist to represent Germany in the contest. Regardless of his sexuality or his skin colour, he's extremely talented, which made him win the selection despite being seen as the underdog. We hope you enjoy the song!
