ALGERIAN ENTRY REVEALED!
ENTV are proud to present the act that will represent Algeria in the 33rd edition of the North Vision Song Contest. The act was internally selected following an open call for submissions. Head of Delegation Stefan Kayteb stated: "we're bringing a party to Georgia! We hope to make the final once again! Get ready to dance gays and girls of Europe"
MEET MAUVAIS ŒIL
Mauvais Oeil is a duo made up of Sarah Benabdallah and Alexis Lebon. Sarah, born to Algerian parents in Paris, France and Alexis of Romanian origins combine the influences of their cultures to create something musically magical - Mauvais Oeil. Mauvais Oeil exemplify the melting pot of culture that is Europe, bringing together East and West in a flawless rhythmic fusion. There is a heavy influence of North African sound and melodies throughout their music.
Sarah sings in Arabic and French and tones her song with the same haunting undulations as the diva Warda , “the Algerian rose”. Alexis, an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, studied baroque music at the Conservatory before learning g-word guitar and then rock. They use their differences in their music and cultural backgrounds creating unique alliances between traditional rhythms and electronic sounds, sometimes drawing comparisons to the likes of Acid Arab and Altin Gun. Mauvais Oeil will be bringing their extremely punchy electronic ethnic banger "Mektoub" to the 33rd edition of the North Vision Song Contest. "Mektoub" encapsulates Mauvais Oeil. The Arabic influences are masterfully mixed with modern electronic sound. Sarah sings in French throughout the song.
