Cypriot entry revealed! First of all, I have to say I am very happy that Cyprus is hosting such an interesting special edition, which requires some research and which I assume will feel truly 'retro' given most songs will be quite old.  Finding an entry was not very easy for me, since my parents were born in 1967 and 1968, just 7 and 8 years after Cyprus became an independent nation respectively and during times of instability as it was a newly formed country. I could only find 3 singers that had released some songs between 1966 and 1969 and I eventually decided to go for one that I had already known but I never really knew it was that old... Michalis Violaris &  Kaiti Homata - 'Aspra Karavia' (= 'White Ships') (1967) You may find a proof of the song being released in 1967 here (the song appears 7th on the list and you can look at the column 'Πρώτη Εκτέλεση' = 'First Version'). A few information about the song and Michalis...The song was one of the first ones by Michalis, who only released his first personal album in 1968. His first songs date back in 1967 (if I am not mistaken) and this is one of them, which was in fact very famous back then, therefore making him one of the most successful artists of his generation, as well as a member of the New Wave musical movement that rose in the mid-1960s in Greece and lasted for about a decade. |

This was quite a difficult theme. In the end I went for a song from 1964 in German. My dad was born in 1965. For my mum's birth year it was a little more difficult even as she's from 1958. It was quite surprising to see how American songs dominated the charts even more then than they do now. And there were many German songs that charted in the Netherlands too! Time slot: 1:26+ |
