Lebanon will compete in the Pre-Qualification Round!
Three weeks after the final results of the thirty-sixth North Vision Song Contest, LBC has announced that Lebanon will participate at the upcoming thirty-seventh edition. This is in spite of Etyen and Khansa's failure to qualify to the Grand Final in Bologna – the first non-qualification since the thirty-third edition for the Middle Eastern country, and its worst result in five editions – which means the country will have to earn its place in the edition through the Pre-Qualification Round.
« Of course we are disappointed that Etyen and Khansa were not able to achieve a third consecutive qualification for Lebanon, but we are nonetheless glad to have sent a totally different entry to the contest, and have our sights firmly set on the future rather than the past. » Prior to the thirty-sixth edition, it had been announced that plans were being made for the return of the mahrajan al'aghnia selection format, however a number of Lebanese news portals have reported that the broadcaster has been "struggling" to attract artists in light of the PQR. Nonetheless, the Head of Delegation is remaining optimistic:
« Participating in the Pre-Qualification Round is, of course, less than desirable, but we've been there five times before, so for us it's simply another step in order to get to the main contest, and not one which is going to stop us from giving it our best shot. » Nothing has been said as of yet about the method of selection. Although a PQR participation means that an internal selection is the most likely option, the broadcaster is reportedly keen to host a third edition of mahrajan al'aghnia after misjudging its choice of Etyen and Khansa last edition, and this has not been ruled out in spite of press speculation. A final decision is expected to be made in due course, once the timings and deadlines for the upcoming edition are clearer.
Whilst the Lebanese entry has been presented towards the end of the North Vision season in recent editions, the earlier deadline for Pre-Qualification Round acts means that the country will be one of the first to reveal this time. That being said, it looks like we will have to wait at least a little longer to find out who will be flying the Lebanese flag in the PQR, and how they will be chosen.
Lebanon's NVSC journey made the best possible start as Nicole Saba won for the country on their debut in the fifth edition with 'Hafdal Ahlam', bringing the contest to Beirut for the sixth edition and starting a (to this day unmatched) three-edition qualification streak. The country's results from then on were rather turbulent, including two four-edition streaks of non-qualifications, although Myriam Fares achieved Lebanon's second best result with 'Nifsi Aoulhalak' in the fourteenth edition: second place.
A new delegation stepped in for the twenty-fourth edition, bringing Lebanon back to the final with Nelly Makdessy's 'Kunt Atmanna' in Vienna, and achieving three top ten results for the country (with 'Call Me a Stranger', '22' and 'Dear Jealousy') before passing the baton on to the current delegation team for the thirty-fourth edition onwards, returning to the final – and to the top ten – with Azure Ryder's 'Stronger'.
Brought to you by the Lebanese Head of Delegation on 26th September 2021

THE NETHERLANDS TO COMPETE IN THE PQR! AVROTROS can announce that The Netherlands will compete in the thirty-seventh edition in the twenty-third Pre-Qualification Round!
After a disappointing edition with REINDEER coming in 17th in the second semi-final in the thirty-sixth edition, the country will have to go through the Pre-Qualification Round to be able to compete in the semi finals.
AVROTROS also can confirm that the selection method will be internal. Due to being in the PQR, we want to hone our act in their ability to perform in the PQR to the best of their ability and qualify to the semi finals. The channel also wants to stress that this is due to budget and time constraints of the delegation, and that Noordvisie Song Festival will return in later editions.
The hunt for the Dutch NVSC entry has begun, and one thing can be sure. It will be serving the Netherlands' finest in terms of music, lyrics & performance, whilst promoting smaller acts within the Netherlands.
Any suggestions from around Europe (and Australia) are more than welcome, and is encouraged by AVROTROS.

IRELAND HAS CHOSEN RTÉ has selected the next flop that will represent Ireland in the PQR of the 37th North Vision Song Contest.
Lenii is a singer, music producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Cork, Ireland.
Her musical life began with taking up classical violin at age 4, followed by piano and guitar. Leaving home for the first time at 15, Lenii came to NYC to learn music production and DJing – subsequently spending years in the electronic music scene. Finding a home in the New York songwriting community, Lenii has spent the past year writing and producing for many developing and established acts; and with successful past releases of her own (inc. 2nd place in the International Songwriting Competition), 2019 marks the beginning of a new chapter for her artist project.
Previously she tried to represent Ireland in the 36th edition with the song "Straitjacket", but she only managed to get 6th out of 10 in the national selection. Now she was given a new chance and she will sing her song "White Lie".
IRELAND IN NVSC #37 Lenii "White Lie" M/l: Dominic Florio, Ellen Murphy
Timeslot: 1:52
We wish good luck to her and all the delegations!
