ALGERIA TO PARTICIPATE IN NVSC #37
ENTV can confirm that Algeria will be present for the thirty-seventh edition of the contest. It is believed that the song will once again be selected internally. Despite "Arab Liquor" failing to qualify from the pre-qualifying round, it went on to become a domestic hit in Algeria, topping the chart for 3 weeks.
Head of Delegation Stefan Kayteb hopes that Algeria can make its return to the final of the contest and reach the heights of "Mektoub" once again.

PORTUGAL CONFIRMS PARTICIPATION!
Today, the official Portuguese broadcaster, RTP, has confirmed the Portuguese participation in the thirty-seventh edition of the North Vision Song Contest.
Once again, RTP has decided that a national selection will be held to select the Portuguese entry for this edition of the contest. Ten different entries will compete in the grand final of Festival da Canção.

 What if Venus were a boy?
 LBC has announced its internally-selected hopeful for the thirty-seventh North Vision Song Contest. Hoping to improve on Etyen and Khansa's seventeenth place in the semi-final last edition in  Bologna, the country is counting on its second consecutive LGBTQ+ artist to make it through the Pre-Qualification Round.
VENUS BLEEDS
Omar Hamadeh, known under the artist moniker Venus Bleeds, will be flying the Lebanese flag in the Pre-Qualification Round. Born in Beirut in April 1997, the twenty-four year old describes himself as an 'autodidactic queer singer, songwriter, director, composer, poet and visual artist' and has previously directed videos for artists such as Mougleta and Khansa. The artistic project of Venus Bleeds centres around the of vision of a male reincarnation of a goddess of femininity (think Björk's "Venus as a Boy"), through which Venus celebrates his femininity and vulnerability and challenges what it means to be a Middle Eastern man, via a musical genre he calls 'psychological pop'.

Composers mozahzah & Venus Bleeds

Venus will be performing "Revelation" in the PQR, written in collaboration with mozahzah, who has also previously worked with NVSC #36 representative Khansa. The song is the third act from his 2021 EP and film project, entitled Catharsis – a 'portrayal of queer middle-eastern trauma against the tides of hyper-masculinity' – and follows two earlier releases, "Dolorosa" and "Purgatory".
The song's music video was filmed on the abandoned runway of Baadaran airport, in the region of Chouf. In the video, we see Venus' ultimate stage of healing, burning a table which contains items symbolic of all his fears as a queer, Middle Eastern man: these include his fear of sex, represented by a dildo, and his fear of being gay, represented by a conversion therapy calendar from February 2016 marking his relapses.
« Qualifying from the Pre-Qualification Round is going to be a challenge given the very strong competition we face, but regardless of whether we do or not, we're glad to be able to share Venus' music with Europe and beyond, which we believe deserves considerably more recognition than it has received. Will Venus be able to bring Lebanon a PQR qualification with "Revelation"? Only time will tell.
Lebanon's NVSC journey made the best possible start as Nicole Saba won for the country on their debut in the fifth edition with 'Hafdal Ahlam', bringing the contest to Beirut for the sixth edition and starting a (to this day unmatched) three-edition qualification streak. The country's results from then on were rather turbulent, including two four-edition streaks of non-qualifications, although Myriam Fares achieved Lebanon's second best result with 'Nifsi Aoulhalak' in the fourteenth edition - second place.
A new delegation stepped in for the twenty-fourth edition, bringing Lebanon back to the final with Nelly Makdessy's 'Kunt Atmanna' in Vienna, and achieving three top ten results for the country (with 'Call Me a Stranger', '22' and 'Dear Jealousy') before passing the baton on to the current delegation team for the thirty-fourth edition onwards, returning to the final - and to the top ten - with Azure Ryder's 'Stronger'.
