Tunisia reveals entry!
our entry was revealed 2 weeks ago actually but heres the post
EMEL!
Emel is a Tunisian-American singer-songwriter, composer, performer and producer whose music has crossed time, countries and continents. She rose to fame in 2012 with her protest song “Kelmti Horra” (My Word Is Free) from the eponymous album “Kelmti Horra” and was subsequently called the voice of the Arab spring. In 2016, she performed Kelmti Horra at the Nobel Peace Prize Ceremony, marking a climax in her journey with this powerful song.
Emel continues her exploration and develops a sound that is unique to her. An electronic music loaded with North African references, with complex rhythms and light-dark atmospheres, which is revealed in 2017 with the release of Ensen (Human), her sophomore album signed on the American label Partisan Records. In constant evolution, Emel pushed the frontiers of her universe even further in 2019 with the release of Everywhere We Looked Was Burning, a prophetic third album in which she embraces the English language and experimental, cinematic music. Also released on Partisan Records, this concept album and cycle of videos clarifies her purpose and confirms her talent as a producer, putting her at the forefront of the international scene. While the following years have been punctuated with a couple releases (« The Tunis Diaries », « Everywhere we looked was burning (live version) »), Emel has released a new single called “Souty”, which translates for “My Voice” in Arabic, meant to celebrate one’s voice in both a literal and political way.

Inside the spoiler the meaning of the song:
The protagonist of the song is a woman (Monnalisa) who decides to escape from a turbulent past that imprisons her and take control of her life. The main theme is therefore that of change and the search for a new life to start from scratch. "Malavita" has a Mediterranean flavour and how the sea is both sun and storm!
Malavita x8 Ti rivela sempre un mare di cose // always reveals to you a sea of things Sotto i veli delle giovani spose // Under the veils of young brides Gli occhi neri mi sembrano i tuoi // The black eyes seem like yours MonnaLisa x4 Chе non hai mai visto un mazzo di rose // That you have never seen a bouquet of roses Non sarà mica colpa del tuo nome // It is not your name's fault Tu non ami, tu fai solo l’amorе // You do not love, you only make love

A tribute to the greats Tina Yamout returns to NVSC with Oyoun Al Soud!
LBCI has announced the internally chosen act representing Lebanon at the forty-fourth North Vision Song Contest, hoping to continue the country's two-edition qualification streak when the competition takes place in Bilbao. After her brand of east-meets-west Arabic pop proved a surprising hit on the NVSC stage in Portugal, the broadcaster has invited a familiar face to fly the Lebanese flag as the contest returns to the Iberian Peninsula once again. Tina Yamout
Returning to the North Vision Song Contest stage for a second participation is Tina Yamout. The 36-year-old singer-songwriter, who first found fame in 2008 participating in the fifth series of Star Academy, pioneers a crossover music style in which Orient meets Occident and which has seen her achieve a number of streaming successes in the MENA region.
Having placed seventeenth in the forty-second edition of NVSC with her song 'Matloub', she will join only a small handful of Lebanese artists who have competed in the contest more than once, the last being Nelly Makdessy seventeen editions ago. Interestingly enough, none of Lebanon's past returnees managed to qualify on both their participations – can Tina buck the trend? « Oyoun Al Soud » Tina Yamout's second North Vision Song Contest entry is titled 'Oyoun Al Soud' (عيون السود), which means 'black eyes' in English. Sampling 1960s classics by Egyptian singer Abdel Halim Hafez and Lebanese legend Sabah, the track pays homage to the greats of the Arabic music industry – an alternative take on this edition's theme, Arbasoen ipuinak.
Yamout started work on 'Oyoun Al Soud' with co-producer Rayan Bailouni in 2020, during the Covid pandemic, intending to celebrate Arabic culture in a modern and unique way that would introduce its legendary musicians to new generations. Four years later, her project is finally ready to see the light, and she will be hoping that her contemporary twist on the familiar will encourage young and old alike to worry less and enjoy life a little more.
All of us wish her – and everyone else competing – the best of luck in Bilbao 🧡
Lebanon's NVSC journey made the best possible start as Nicole Saba won for the country on their debut in the fifth edition with 'Hafdal Ahlam', bringing the contest to Beirut for the sixth edition and starting a (to this day unmatched) three-edition qualification streak. The country's results from then on were rather turbulent, including two four-edition streaks of non-qualifications, although Myriam Fares achieved Lebanon's second best result with 'Nifsi Aoulhalak' in the fourteenth edition – second place.
A new delegation stepped in for the twenty-fourth edition, bringing Lebanon back to the final with Nelly Makdessy's 'Kunt Atmanna' in Vienna, and achieving three top ten results for the country (with 'Call Me a Stranger', '22' and 'Dear Jealousy') before passing the baton on to the current delegation team for the thirty-fourth edition onwards, returning to the final – and to the top ten – with Azure Ryder's 'Stronger'. The country has seen mixed results since, with Tina Yamout's 'Matloub' and GAZAL's 'Breathe' both reaching the final in the contest's most recent editions. Brought to you by the Lebanese delegation on 10th August 2024
