Icelandic diva revealed! Reykjavik, 11th August 2024
RÚV, the Icelandic broadcaster, is now ready to reveal their entry for the upcoming edition of North Vision Song Contest, to be held in Bilbao.
The country once again held the national selection, IJBOL, to select the next Icelandic representative. 8 songs competed, but only one was able to be victorious. With 147 points, we can announce that Gríma has won the ticket to Bilbao and will be our next representative!
Theodóra Gríma Þrastardóttir, performing under her stage name Gríma, is an Icelandic singer and songwriter. She is a relatively unknown figure in the Icelandic music scene but has been singing since she was a child and loves to release music. She loves to travel and lives life to the fullest - a true diva. She released three songs previously, specifically Angels on the Moon, Rock my World and Upp á nýtt. She submitted her song Burt to enter the Icelandic national selection for this edition and was overwhelmed with joy when she found out that she won over her closest rivals CYBER and GDRN, both having prior experience in the contest - CYBER took part in the national selection for the 30th edition, while GDRN took part in the contest before in the 26th edition with her song Lætur mig.
When asked about her win in the national selection, Gríma stated that:
I'm overwhelmed with joy and pride in winning the national selection and getting the right to represent Iceland in Bilbao. It was quite unexpected, especially with some tough challengers - I had low expectations. But I am immensely proud to represent my country on the international stage. I have been following North Vision for quite some time now and have dreamt about participating one day. Now it's my time! Takk fyrir! Gríma will be singing her song Burt (eng. "Away") in Bilbao. It is a song about a breakup that she recently had and how she's moving on and never going back to her ex ( ég er farin burt frá þér (I've gotten away from you), og ætla aldrei aldrei aftur til baka (and will never ever go back). It's the third time in a row that Iceland sends a song in Icelandic.
Timeslot: RV (0:00+) in the spoiler: Additionally, you can listen to our entry on Spotify below: We wish the best of luck to our new diva Gríma in Bilbao! Thanks to everyone who voted in our selection. The grids can be viewed here!

AVE BELGIA!
In a highly anticipated event at the VRT headquarters in Brussels, Belgium has officially revealed its entry for the 44th edition of the North Vision Song Contest, which will take place in the vibrant city of Bilbao. This edition marks a historic moment for Belgium, as it will be the first time ever that the nation sends a song performed in Dutch to the competition. Following two consecutive successful qualifications with French-language songs, the Flemish broadcaster VRT has decided to step into the spotlight, determined to make its mark by bringing something truly unique to the competition and choosing to showcase the beauty of their own language.
Belgium's representatives for this edition are none other than Blond feat. Rendier, who will captivate the audience with their haunting song "Maria". Fien Van der Aa, Linde Notenbaert and Caitlin Talbut met at the Antwerp conservatory and the ball quickly started rolling to start a Dutch-language group. Blond mix synthpop, humor and a critical undertone into an infectious whole.
Blond have already dipped their toes into the North Vision music scene, though their journey has been anything but smooth. Previously, they participated in Belfestival:40 with their song "Boys Boys Boys", but their performance didn't quite hit the mark, placing second to last in the national final. Despite this setback, Blond has shown remarkable resilience and determination and are now poised to make a more lasting impression with "Maria".
Their entry gives a feminist twist to Jesus’ classic birth story. For “Maria” the trio teamed up with the Dutch-language band Rendier. Right from the start it is clear that the single has a dark edge. The song starts off rather mysteriously and the relevance of Jesus and the Holy Spirit are refuted. This immediately confronts us with the facts. The addition of church-like symphonies and a dry beat makes “Maria” both danceable and serious. The lyrics about forty weeks of pregnancy and the birth by ox and donkey, raise ‘comic’ questions as to how on earth such a thing was possible. Nevertheless, Blond gives the Holy Virgin the recognition she finally deserves.
