I'm actually really happy, that Estonia didn't qualify, but Iceland did

Could you please tell me that reason? It sounds like an interesting one. It's simple - we are like brothers - we've fought together for our freedom etc. Almost everything in our history is the same... that's why we understand each other so good... we've done many things together... That sounds great!

It's not the goodbye that hurts but the flashbacks that follow.

I really wanted to cry for Estonia........ Tanja was really amazing. I knew the last qualifier was Estoniaaaa but no... Anyway I'm happy for Montenegro and Ukraine they made it, same for Valentina but I really don't like her song.

Not just 5 people; they're known with the music industry and they mostly know how to make a sure list of countries they would give points. I know, but it's astounding to know that those few people have such power in the contest, sometimes the juries make weird decisions, like Italy last year, the Italian televote gave Romania 12 points, but the Italian jury ranked it so low that they ended up only getting 1 point, and don't get me started on Montenegro last year.... Also, the juries are supposed to have an equal number of gender, but the italian jury was all-male last year... I don't know about Italy of last year. It happens more often that the EBU doesn't have a big problem with a rule which isn't taken that serious by a country. I think it would be dangerous if the jury members would be people who didn't know (almost) anything about music nor the Eurovision Song Contest but I think that's simply not the case right now. At least most of the juries are mostly known with the music industry and so they know how the handle their votes.

The only thing with the juries that annoys me is that they encourage countries to pick ballads ('music with quality').

Honestly, apart from 2011, I can totally see why you failed in all of the recent years. And just to blame politics or to say "it's just because it's Latvia" isn't right imo. In this field of over-dramatic ballads and performances it's just not enough to send a rather amateurish campfire song that might be enjoyable for many people, but which is totally chanceless in this tough competition. Almost all countries would have failed with this entry I suppose (ok, maybe not Azerbaijan or Russia : . It's certainly true that small countries need to make more effort to do well than others, but just look at your neighbours Estonia or Lithuania. They have similar conditions and still manage to qualify often. You just need to send more professional entries, then nothing is impossible (like in 2005 or 2007, where you qualified from way bigger semi-finals and got good results in the end). If you will keep sending competitive songs, you will get rewarded once for sure. But with more "Here we go"s and "Cake To Bake"s we won't see Latvia in the final the next years either... P.S. I'm very emotional person, so that's why I sometimes go too far with arguing... I'm sorry for wasting all these pages with "my problems", but if I argue, I do it till the end... that's what I am... this is also probably, why I don't have almost any real friend (I hope you understand, what I mean with real friend) - no one really likes me and it all started only because I was one of the smartest guys in the whole school so I was bullied (also I'm not that good looking, to attrack people)...

Tom although you don't like (I could even say that you hate) our song, latvians loved Netherlands performance and I think you got from us at least (it could be also all 12)... You want to know why? Because latvians love schlager/country music and your performance (like ours) wasn't fake and was without any special effects... but we didn't qualified although it was our best performance from last 6 years, when we failed to qualify... But I have to say this quote from one movie, that completely describes Latvians and our music - "We are different and people (this time Europe) don't like what's different" I don't hate the Latvian entry, I even think it would've been worth to qualifiy if I listen to the studio version (I'd ranked Latvia 22th in my personal top this year before the show). Well, from my point of view (as being Dutch I mean) I can't really make a clear line of countries which likes our entries more often then other countries. I can only ensure there's some friend voting with Belgium but we've a close relation with them. You can't ensure that Latvia gave us high points, although it could be possible and I would be grateful for every high points in the semi final. I mean The Netherlands are voting just often for the songs we really like. I don't think most of the Dutch people liked the Latvian entry that much. Armenia, Hungary and Sweden were the most loved ones I heard before the show of several Dutch people - probably most of the nationalities would rank them as best 3 of the semi final. It's not clear to say a special western country wouldn't vote for a Baltic country because of whatever reason you would imagine.

Latvia used to be high in my personal top since 2011. Cake to bake is in my top 10.
