Preparations for a notable Alkyrian holiday!
(this is a traditional Alkyrian kite, which dates from the Kallitian Empire and which remains a symbol for native Alkyrians)
In the way of arranging everything, the Alkyrian Republic prepares for their most symbolic holiday. Commemorating both the former Kallitian Empire and the actual Alkyrian Republic, the date of February 18th marks their independence as new states and the beginning of a new chapter in Fantasia. The kite, also known as a Xiuhqui, used to simbolize prosperity and fortune in the life of a Kallitian, which meant a peaceful life, full of fertile lands and of course, a high social status. The Xiuhqui Festival is held every year, spanning over 1 month and it focuses on the Kallitian Empire's tradition, culture, religion and history throughout the centuries untill its eventual demise. The kite is symbolic for the festival, and it's held in the region of Zamara, which is nowadays located literally between the border with Eldance - but of course, on the Alkyrian half. ( Eldance can join if they want too, the Eldancan currency can be used to purchase stuff)
(a better picture of the Xiuhqui Festival, in full state and mainly full of people)
In order to join the festival, the entrance is free, but you need money to buy food, water, accessories or even a little handcrafted version of a kite. So, for the upcoming week, the preparations were pretty intense, as around 2,5 million people participated in this traditional holiday last year, and it's a high possibility in a higher rise in numbers this year. There will be a mini-concert too, of which Alkyria's former participants in Fantasia Contest, alongside Ines Brazil & Luisa Sobral, Alice Merton, Luna Shadows & Rae Morris, Zaz, Lili Poe & Coeur de Pirate, Faylan, The Birthday Massacre & many many others which are highly rumoured but aren't sure they'll come. As well, there's high rumours of several participants in the upcoming edition of Fantasia Contest which is fully willing to promote their entry live in Alkyria in the upcoming month.
Alkyria's 96th birthday is coming up soon - and yet the schedule became full. We hope you enjoy your staying in Alkyria for the upcoming visitors and we hope you'll like the festival. It's free to join for every Fantasian country, no exceptions made.

Achróan national broadcaster hit by massive scandal STA HQ, Trangueli • 19 February
Four out of ten members of STA's (Serveçè d'Telévéçéo d'Agróa) delegation to the Fantasia Contest - including its leader from August 2015 - have been sacked after a whistleblower revealed that the four members had colluded in usurping money from other STA projects in order to fund overly-ambitious plans to propel Achróa's success at the Fantasia Contest.
It is believed that this is the first time a scandal of this level has occurred within a state-owned company.
Among the sacked are:
Nerbec Novolené | Head of the Achróan Delegation to the Fantasia Contest | Larisa Bret | Deputy Head of the Achróan Delegation to the Fantasia Contest | Oçettè Devenne | Head of Selection for the Achróan Delegation to the Fantasia Contest | Ráiça Ivottèçi | Head of Finance for the Achróan Delegation to the Fantasia Contest |
However, Achróa's participation is in jeopardy as none of the six remaining members are willing to continue with their duties as members of the team. One of the delegation's members, who wishes to remain anonymous, said that the team was "dysfunctional beyond measure" and that "Achróa would have ended up withdrawing if things stayed the same."
In the meantime, a mostly independent delegation has been drafted, consisting of 8 members of Achróa's most hardwired Fantasia Contest fan group, Le Vistè, and 2 financial advisors, one from STA and the other independent. They will oversee the current participation of The Jezabels in the 11th edition, and will select all the entries for the foreseeable future. Le Vistè, however, is notorious for favouring more daring and alternative entries - signalling a possible change in Achróa's status in the contest.
The Fantasia Contest is the most popular international broadcast to be aired in Achróa by a landslide - up to 40% of Achróa are believed to have watched the inaugural edition of the contest. It is feared that today's revelation may impact the consistently high ratings the contest has enjoyed in the archipelago.

ALLEMANJU TO BE RENAMED
Earlier this year, the Royal Aquian Academy has made the decision to rename Poranean to Aquian.
Based on this decision, a nation-wide discussion has broken out in Scandavia, concerning Allemanju. Allemanju has originated in one of Scandavia's tribal languages; Djútsi, which is still spoken by a part of Scandavia's population today. Many politicans have openly given their opinions on the topic, mostly agreeing that the term Allemanju has little to none connection to the vast language it is describing.
The Scandavian legislative court and the Union of Scandavian Academic Facilities have agreed of renaming Allemanju into Scandavian.
An official statement has been given:

STATUS OF ENGJU HAS BEEN CHANGED IN DÝRIA!
The Dýrian government has announced recently that a huge change will be happening regarding the Engju language and it's status in the Dýrian constitution.
After a very lengthy discussions and debates surrounding the language, the parliament has announced that Engju will no longer be an official language of Dýria. This decision was not made over night, and was actually an issue that persisted for quite a few years now. In fact, in 2015, many started to question the status of Engju as an official language, and it started the debate that would last until 2018.
Why was this change even considered? The main reason behind this debate was the data surrounding the number of native Engju speakers in Dýria. The concentration of native Engju speakers is mostly along the Jarean border, although the majority of people in those areas speak Jarean or Koran. The only other areas where Engju was the main language of the population was around the Baesnian border too, but again, a majority chose to speak their own language instead.
Although the vast majority of people in Dýria can speak Engju fluently, it is mainly as a 2nd or 3rd language only, and the number of full native speakers is quite low in comparison to the other 3 languages. The use of Engju in the Dýrian government has also been quite low, although it did operate as a somewhat lingua-franca at some points in time. However, the 3 other official languages have since dominated the parliament.
What will happen to Engju now? Engju will be reverted to a national language instead of an official one. This was done because the language is still significant to a portion of the population living in Dýria, and thus this is why it did not become a minority language (as figures seem to suggest that just over 95,000 people would consider it their mother tongue and one they use on a daily basis). And not to mention, the language has it's roots in Dýrian history.
From April 2018, Engju will no longer be an official language of the Dýrian government, and thus the 3 official languages of Dýria will remain as Dýrian, Foreju and Irsan respectively. The school curriculum will not change - Dýrian schools operating in Engju will obviously be able to continue and have full governmental recognition. And likewise, Engju will still remain a second language offered to those in Dýrian schools, and a 3rd one in Irsan and Foreju schools. Also, this will not have any effect on those wishing to submit Engju songs to DRTV for the Fantasia Contest, as the broadcaster accepts songs regardless of what language they are in. DRTV will still operate an Engju language channel and will provide Engju subtitles on other channels.
The president, Ingibjörg Egilsdóttir, officially confirmed this today;

Official Translation revealed.
Shinkoyuan FC performer, Violette Wautier, has made it to the final of Fantasia Song Contest 11 and with that, her song in Tèij, which is now recognised as an official language in Shinkoyu, has been translated for the rest of the world into EngjuTèij -
แต่ให้ฉุดให้รั้งเท่าไหร่, เธอคงไม่เปลี่ยนใจ, จะให้เธอทั้งหัวใจ, เธอคงไม่รับไป.
dtɛ̀ɛ hâi chùt hâi ráng tâo rài, təə kong mâi bplìan jai, jà hâi təə táng hua jai, təə kong mâi ráp bpai.
ยิ่งทนยิ่งฝืนเท่าไหร่, ต้องเข้าใจยอมรับมัน, ต้องหยุด ใช้น้ำตาเรียกร้องความสนใจ.
yîng ton yîng fʉ̌ʉn tâo rài, dtɔ̂ɔng kâo jai yɔɔm ráp man, dtɔ̂ɔng yùt chái náam dtaa rîak rɔ́ɔng kwaam son jai.
Engju -
But how much you give in to me, to hold you back, You most likely won't change your mind, I'll give you all of my heart, You probably won't receive it and go.
I must understand and admit to accept it, I must increase to make an effort, I must stop using my tears to demand an interest.

Breaking News From Pohunskia *A news reporter is outside in the middle of Noroyska city with hundreds of people panicking to get away from the area*
There is mass panic in the capital city of Pohunskia Noroyska city as our beloved president Valeriy Meladze has been shot by an unknown shooter as he was driving through the city centre today. There were three shots fired killing the Minister of Defence, the highest ranking officer in the army and the President. The suspect has not been found yet and he or she is out there and is extremely dangerous. The Vice president has called the army to hunt down the assassin but it may be too late to catch this person.
*The feed goes back to the studio with a obviously shocked news reporter*
The assassin is said to be part of a group called the Pohunskan Eagle League, a group of fascists that wish to take over the government to install a government that will impose their beliefs on all of us. There have been reports of towns just out of the Frootanian borders saying that they are part of this group and declaring a state of rebellion as the unknown leader of this group lays claim on this part of our nation. It seems like our government has been hiding the fact that there has been unrest in that area and their forces are building up with some parts of the Pohunskan army swearing their allegiance to this fanatical group. The government swears that the situation is under control and these criminals will be dealt with accordingly.

Aquia's army sent to quell Rio favela violence Soldiers are sent to help Rio police after heavily-armed drug gangs fought over its biggest favela.
The army in Monzinha, Rio de Fevereiro.
The Aquian army was deployed in one of Rio de Fevereiro's largest favelas, Monzinha, after six days of clashes between rival drug gangs. The shanty town is home to an estimated 70,000 people living on hillsides overlooking wealthy western Rio.
A major highway running past the shanty town was closed for hours because of a gun battle between the police and criminals that caused traffic jams on one of the city's main east-west arteries. Deep budget cuts to all Rio's public services because of the economic crisis has weakened police resources in the favelas.
Tens of thousands of students at a nearby university were ordered to stay at home and local schools remained closed. Gunshots could be heard from inside Rocinha and black smoke rose from the higher streets. Drug gang leaders have been returning to dispute their drug territories after having been temporarily ousted during 2017.
Violence is common in favelas, home to almost a quarter of Rio's population, with drug gangs controlling much of the territory. People have grown used to trying to carry out their daily lives against a background of permanent conflict between the police and drug gangs.
As the situation spun out of control, Defence Minister Raul Jungmann responded to pleas from locals for help to calm the situation and ordered 950 troops onto the streets, as well as 10 armoured cars. There were shootouts in four other favelas as well.
Locals said they hadn't seen anything as bad in years. Rede Globo's Rio reporter, Julia Carneiro said people have been complaining that attention is given to the daily violence endured by favela dwellers only when it affects richer areas of the city. She said the armed forces have been patrolling Rio favelas since July to little effect.

GLARAY LOOKS TO IMPROVE RELATIONS WITH NEIGHBOURS
The government has announced today its intentions on improving relations with its neighbours. While the country has decent relationships with Trivania, Atlandia and Onduria, they could be "a lot better". The president has said it is willing to engage in talks with Katsyria, but labels the pair's relationship as "a sensitive subject". The president also declared that they will not seek to improve relations with Lab Rador, due to citizens' extreme dislike for the country as a result of attempted genocide and resentment from their side.
