DAY 6
The Wulforan side took a fortuitous lead through an unorthodox header, but Hwaesonna came roaring back to score twice in four minutes to the huge delight of the vast majority of the crowd. They could, and should, have increased the advantage when one of their strikers escaped down the left but chose the selfish option instead of squaring to the unmarked midfielder and shot straight at the Demacian keeper. A missed opportunity turned back against the players after 6 minutes when the game was tied once again. In fairness a 2-2 draw was probably a fair result as it highlighted Demacia’s ability to penetrate Hwaesonna’s defense but also rewarded their sharp counter-attack and punished Demacian lack of pace on the back line. Demacia lacked execution at key moments, mainly in the dying stages and with excellent Hwaesonna defending also responsible, and will need to improve their accuracy and tempo against Shinkoyu in Marleti on Tuesday. Hwaesonna, who has collected two points so far will face Levalle in Hulluksio.
Dýria claimed pole position in Group B with a hard-fought 2-0 win against Zylofonija. Dýria had the better of a close contest light on chances in Frigg, with Gunnarsson's aerial power causing plenty of problems for Zylofonija, who impressed everyone with their tactics during their last game against Eldance. While dominating for long periods, Dýria struggled to penetrate the Zylofonijan defence and failed repeatedly to find the target with speculative shots from well outside the penalty area. The first goal came just after the half-hour mark when a Dýrian corner from the right was headed across the box and on to striker Gunnarsson, whose diving header found its way into the net. He fired another superb goal in the space of three minutes, finding the top corner from 15 yards out. The debutants from Zylofonija were unable to create a clear opportunity of their own and sit bottom of Group B following the second round of fixtures. They have to win against Corzazjan on Tuesday to make their dreams about progressing to the knockout stage come true.
No team have yet lost their lives in this World Cup’s group stage but the United States of Eldance are on life support. After a sensational draw 3-3 in their opening game against Zylofonija, they have now lost to Corzazjan and are pretty close to get eliminated from the tournament. Corzazis took an early lead in the 6th minute, but a superb strike from Las Tres Estrellas levelled the scores just after an hour. Their goal stung them into action, and they chased the game to create decent chances. Twenty minutes into the second half, the Corzazi striker took once touch, David De Gea in the Eldanca goal, went down fractionally and fatally too early. The Corzazi player blasted his shot into the roof of the net. Eldance are now relying on a Corzazjan win against Zylofonija. They must also achieve a two-goal swing if they are to pip Dýria to second place and reach the last 16.
  Sigurd Sandvik scored on his return to the starting line-up as Levalle kept their World Cup knockout hopes alive and dealt Shinkoyu's chances a blow with a 1-0 win in Brodrik. Levalle won the corner from which they opened the scoring when Sandvik's strike, which looked to be off target, cannoned off the keeper of Shinkoyu and bounced past him. Shinkoyu, in contrast, were unable to put any cohesive attacking moves together, meaning they became the first team at the 2018 World Cup to fail to record an attempt in the first half. The Serican team struggled to recover, with the closest they came to an equaliser arrving on 75 minutes when their striker fired well over the bar. The host country managed to control the match from start to finish so they pushed to seal all three points deservedly. They can move from bottom of the table into first with a win over Hwaesonna, so long as Demacia do not beat Shinkoyu by a larger margin.

Hugo Madsen striked twice to sink Flírskmasto. Marc Stein's tenure qualified to the knockout stage after winning 3-0 over the Serican team at Nytårio Park. Madsen opened the scoring with a first-time finish from Lašek's cross. Five minutes later Lidonia were two goals ahead after the same player netted from the penalty spot. Lidonia dominated the second half, adding their third goal when Luca Karlovič, who started the game on the bench, set up Lašek. He dinked his finish over the keeper to wrap up the victory. It was no more than Lidonia deserved because, although their opponents kept coming forward strongly, they ran out of ideas and invention in front of goal. Flírskmasto’s attacks, if you could call them that, foundered timidly on the imperious Lidonian defence. With one point from two games, the Flírskmastoans must already win their final match against Ydiwealth to have any hope of progressing, while Lidonia is the first team assured of qualifying to the next phase from the first place in group C.
After a stunning performance in their first match against Wedse, the United Lands of Jarea found their shooting boots once again, this time against Wyvernbourne in Madevis. It was impossible not to be warmed by the Jarean dazzling skill and imagination. Wyvernbourne were not taking all this lying down and had an opening of their own when their striker had a big chance to beat the Jarean keeper. Seconds later the Jareans were in front, with Crishan contributing a fine individual goal. He rounded off a stunning first-half display with scoring another goal seven minutes before half-time. Wyvernbourne pulled a goal back through substitute on 59 minutes and netted again with the final touch of the match. The third goal of Jarea was scored 7 minutes before the final whistle. Tuan Unao lofted a wonderful ball over the top for FIan, who unselfishly squared for Yuo to convert. After losing both of their matches, Wyvernbourne is the first time who has been eliminated from the tournament. UL Jarea with 6 points have the top spot in the group and are certain about qualifying to the knockouts.
Fordia's World Cup hopes hang in the balance as they were held to a disappointing draw by Wedse after a wretched display in Marleti. Fordians were absolutely appalling in drawing with the excellent Wedse team at Vojtore Stadium today. The team of Wedse took the lead on the hour mark. The goal seemed to have knocked the stuffing out of Fordia, but with less than 10 minutes their remaining substitute threaded the ball into the box for Asøn to run onto. Wedse rode the storm, and came roaring back. The game was alive now, and being played at a fantastic pace. They started to create chances of their own. Maliq Mkhäl came closest, dragging his shot just wide from Zvediisvok's superb flick. Fordian men lacked belief, shape, energy. Despite being placed second in their group, Fordia now need to get at least a single point against Jarea on Wednesday to ensure qualification to the knockout stages. Wedse must win against Wyvernbourne with a larger margin in case they still dream about progressing to the next phase.
  Ydiwealth and Moly-Boronia played out an insipid group C match as the encounter in Tergå ended in a goalless draw. The Moly-Boronians were arguably the better side throughout in a game lacking quality and ambition but it was Ydiwealth who came the closest to winning the match when their striker hit the woodwork in the first half, which was keenly contested without producing much in the way of goalmouth incident. Neither goalkeeper had a real save to make except for the situation mentioned above. The Moly-Boronia forwards' impact was checked by a series of heavy challenges by the Ydiwealth defenders. Moly-Boronia came away unhappy with another goalless draw after dominating as they failed to score in a second consecutive game. Both teams have still a big chance of qualifying to the knockout stage. All they need to is to win on Wednesday. Moly-Boronia will face the leaders from Lidonia, while Ydiwealth will try to win over Flírskmasto.

Llort sealed their progress to the last 16 of the World Cup with a thrilling 3-1 win over Sylvan, who are out of the tournament. Confidence was high for Llort, who were heading into the pitch after outclassing Alkyria in their group F opener. Their side immediately clicked, passing the ball around confidently whilst Sylvan were still finding their feet. Come the tenth minute and the Llortish had the lead. Their striker had enough control to pass and lash the ball past the Sylvanian keeper from close range. Into the second half, and Llort quickly made their mark doubling their lead. One of the Sylvanian strikers made an instant impact just after the hour mark, winning a penalty for his side, which gave them a lifeline. However, it wasn’t to be. Llort kept the ball well and scored a well-worked team goal to seal victory seven minutes from time. They will top the group if they can see off Scandavia in their final match. Sylvan might now be out of this World Cup, but they depart this game with plenty to be proud of having given one of the world's best national teams.
Evergreen kept alive their World Cup hopes with a dramatic 4-3 win over Torlova at Brodrik Park. Two goals in the seven added minutes turned the game on its head. Torlova were the better side in the opening stages and fully deserved to go ahead from the game's first clear-cut opportunity in the 16th minute. Evergreen were poor back then but they improved as the game wore on and had the ball in the net in the 39th minute. Three minutes later, a swift attack down the left ended with Antonio Palermo putting in a low cross that was converted first time by Patrick Hughes at the near post. Evergreen continued to pile on the pressure and should have scored in the 55th minute when they were awarded a penalty. Two minutes after that it was 2-2 following a dreadful from the Everish keeper, whose weak throw out was intercepted by Torlova. Torlova did get their third on 79 minutes, after droving a glorious shot just inside Fehon’s far post. But Evergreen weren't finished and substitute Vägi struck in the second minute of stoppage time to restore parity. Even better was to follow as the Everish team clinched the three points as they had the final say, with Vägi claiming his second goal. As both teams are locked together in the middle of the group, their final matches will determine who qualifies to the next phase.
Namimori must secure a point in their final group stage match against Torlova to ensure they reach the last 16 at their World Cup debut after they eased to victory over Lanovina in Andrex. Both teams started the game strong, having a handful of chances each in the first half before Félix Avery had a goal disallowed for an offside from Hans Kreftgen by VAR. After the break, Namimori started to press for that elusive opener, but a well organized Lanovian defense soaked pressure to contain their charges. The pressure from the Namimori men finally paid dividends with about eleven minutes to go. The ball was played in the danger zone and their striker beat the Lanovian defender to slot past Halt for the lone goal. Once again, the handful of fans, who travelled to Levalle to cheer for the Lanovian team, went home disappointed. After Evergreen won to Torlova, Lanovina still stands chance of qualifying to the knockout stage. They will play their last game against the mentioned Everish team. Winning is all that matters for the team from Southern Wulfor.
  Alkyria and Scandavia finished the eighth day of the 2018 World Cup with a cracker of a match, playing out a 3-3 draw in Lytte. The 2016 World Champions seemed to be falling apart when Tybalt Decker and Sergej Olzachev gave the Alkyrians a 2-0 lead only for a stunning five minute period to see Scandavia snatch a 3-2 lead. However they were denied victory as Decker had strucked once again 15 minutes from time. It seemed implausible that the final minutes would not bring another goal, but a game full of surprises had one more as both defences somehow held firm to claim a point apiece. Scandavia must now at least draw their final group game to stand a chance of qualifying for the knockout stage. Alkyria, knowing a win would secure qualification to the knockout stages, started well, and took the lead in superb fashion. They are facing Sylvan on Thursday. The Southern Sakodan team has to win in case they want to keep their hopes alive about progressing.
