DAY 20
Lidonia's wait for a World Cup trophy will extend after their national team lost 1-3 to Niolskiaj in their semi-final game at Brodrik Park. Niolskiaj settled into the contest first, as Lidonia struggled to find rhythm in their passing. Niol players forced Marek Mačala into the first save of the game as their goalbound efforts from the edge of the box were acrobatically tipped over by the Lidonian keeper. Back then Lidonia began to press for the first time in the game and in the 13th minute they were ahead. Kralek pounced and drove into the box and, with the aid of a deflection off Aredenko, fired Lidonia into the lead with a cool finish. The Niol coach ordered his players to keep their heads up and encouraged them to keep going the way they had. It was advice well heeded as four minutes later their striker got them the goal their first-half display deserved. Niolskiaj began the second half as they had the first – confident and on the front foot. And they were soon ahead after scoring a sublime team goal. The Lidonians went close in the 63rd minute. Gurke did well on the left but his low centre fizzed across the face of goal. Lašek won a free kick just outside the area after two minutes - but he fired into the wall. Seconds later, Niolskiaj were two goals ahead. A pass was rolled inside from the right to the Niol player in the middle and he let fly from 25 yards with his left foot. The ball swerved in the air and flew into the net, leaving keeper Marek Mačala pretty much rooted to the spot. Chances were limited for the Lidonians, but they came close once again in the 89th minute when Madsen’s close range effort was well saved by the Niol keeper. As it turned out, one of the debuting teams made it through to the final. It is Niolskiaj who will now be heading to Frigg for the final match. On the other hand, Lidonia’s players will never forget the night they had the lead in a World Cup semi-final and blew it.
Aquia beat Fordia in a penalty shootout after their thrilling 2018 World Cup semi-final ended 1-1 after extra-time. Fordia took the lead inside seven minutes through Xyon, who was afforded acres of space to head home a corner. Genrod had the chance to double Fordia's lead from the penalty spot after Luan Rafael Domingos clumsily tackled Asøn inside the area, but Dos Santos saved comfortably. Fordia were dominant for much of the first half and looked destined to increase their lead. Then, the action swung to the other end with the Aquian side grabbing the leveller. Anselmo’s long punt forward was misjudged by the Fordian defence, and typically, there to pick up the scraps was José Augusto Cougil to poke beyond Kröler. The interval signalled the end to a tight first half which saw chances of real quality arrive few and far between. Much like the first period, it was Fordia who came out the traps quicker in the second half. Kilem got the better of De Ávila down the right flank on 51 minutes before curling an effort towards goal that was held by Dos Santos. Fordia almost took the lead in the 61st minute. After a loose ball fell kindly for Torstein on the half-way line, he fed Asøn who advanced forward before thumping a strike against the crossbar. Five minutes later, Torstein had a half chance himself when, having collected a lay-off from Kilem, he shot wide from the edge of the box. Both teams were now very careful not to leave any spaces to the opposition and they were afraid to attack. Except some shots from distance there was literally no chances for both teams to score. As the game moved to extra time, Aquia began to build pressure against their opponents. Yet the Fordians still found attacking opportunities. Late excitement came when they hit posts twice in the 120th minute. The match went straight to penalties, with Dos Santos saving from Xyon, Asøn and Genrod to leave Guilherme Steffler Bertoldo to score the winning spot-kick. The Aquian supporters could celebrate another triumphant night. Aquia has made it to the World Cup final for the first time in their history. Fordia will go with a lot of people’s good wishes as they knocked out the hosts Levalle to reach this semi-final and have contributed richly to what is being acclaimed as the most attractive World Cup in memory. Aquia will face Niolskiaj in the final, while Fordia will battle against Lidonia for the third place.

Prunia appoints Noah Sierras as new coach. The 48-year-old was previously in charge of Prunian club Olympique Lemarol. In his career as a manager, he won five major honours including three Prunian league title.
The new coach, who is determined to put a smile back on the fans' faces, replaces Nicolas Bailey, Prunia's 2015 World Cup winning coach, who took responsibility and was forced to resign on December 22nd after the disastrous journey of Prunia in the 2018 World Cup held in Levalle.
In his introductory press conference today, right after officially taking control of the national team, Noah Sierras said : « I am thankful for the confidence placed in me, and I will do everything I can to be worthy of this trust. I will give my all for the team. We will work conscientiously to get results in 2019. The fans are down right now but we know that the team still means a lot to them, and we will try our best to make them proud again. »
He later commented on the still ongoing World Cup : « Prunia was among the favourites at the beginning and the players had to deal with that pressure. [...] Just because you lose doesn’t mean that everything was a disaster. [...] Both Aquia and Niolskiaj had to work things out as the World Cup progressed, but both teams played as units throughout the entire tournament, and they moved up this way. Niolskiaj fastly managed to recover from their loss at the first match, and Aquia successfully went through two extensions and two penalty shootouts. Even though Aquia could be seen as a favorite on paper because of the first match, both teams can actually make it. »

CLOSING DAY
THIRD PLACE MATCH
Fordia may have failed to reach the World Cup final but they did the next best thing. The Wulforan team will return home with the set of bronze medals awarded to the tournament's third-place side for the second time in a row. On Sunday night Fordia showed how much they have grown as they beat Lidonia, who were one of the main favourites to win the trophy this year. Though, they began disjointedly and could have gone behind in the opening minute as Hugo Madsen got between two of Fordia’s central defenders. His attempt was far from being succesfull. It looked as if Lidonia would overwhelm Fordia, but the latter team has grown in confidence in this tournament. As play continued Husen made space on the right and his cross found Asøn with the goal agape, but he scuffed his shot and the Lidonian keeper saved easily. Little changed after the break. Lidonia continued to control the game but Fordia, now settled into their shape, looked solid. The bronze medal match had ended goalless after 90 minutes. Extra time beckoned. In its second period the breakthrough finally arrived when Birkovsky hauled down Genrod. Despite considerable Lidonian protests, Husen stepped up to take the penalty, and his low kick sent Ruzička the wrong way. Fordia held on for a first-ever win against the 2017 World Cup runner-ups. Their side will land in Krono on Monday morning after another successful World Cup.
FINAL
The FANA World Cup - a festival of football that only happens once a year has defied expectations, eliminated tournament favourites like Prunia, Scandavia and the United States of Eldance, and has left just two teams to battle it out for a gold medal. The 2018 FANA World Cup final was the last game that had taken place at the 64,792 capacity Nationalstadionet in Levallese capital city - Frigg, contested between Niolskiaj and Aquia. Both teams have previously faced each other in the group stage, where Aquia defeated Niolskiaj after a convincing 3-0 victory. Did the history repeat itself?
Aquia and Niolskiaj were looking for their first World Cup title, it was the first time both teams played in the final match. The Latinicans appeared to be the favourites to win the final. The Serican nation was not on a hiding to nothing though. The national football team of Niolskiaj was living their dream during the 2018 FANA World Cup. Their defensive showing against Lidonia forced the Aquians better not to take this team too lightly.
Aquia got us underway at Nationalstadionet. Both sides were just settling intro this one nicely, taking it pretty easy. Really loud rings of "Vamos! Vamos!" could be hearable around the ground already. The first significant attach of the day saw Aquia giving the ball away in defence, and Niolskiaj capitalise on that. Their effort from the left came off the side netting, however. And then Aquia had their first real effort. Some lovely skillful touches from Gomes before he pulled the trigger unsuccessfully. The game started to heat up nicely.
GOAL! The ball found it way into the back of the next from the boot of Niol striker. Aquia really should have done better this time. We had promising attacks at both ends, but it was Niolskiaj who broke the deadlock and was one step closer from getting the trophy! Aquia began to pil the pressure on and undoubtely dominated possession all over the field. The Latinicans attacked from the counter, impressing down the left. The ball eventually found it way to Gomes over the far side, he had time, but again, he scuffed his most recent effort, this time over the bar.
Aquia were pushing more and more, their first goal was coming and the moment finally came. Cougil headed home! A good free-kick was fired into the box, it found its way out to Da Silva on the left. His cross in then met Cougil's head and both teams were square. The first half ended in a 1-1 tie. Aquia was by far the better team, but it must be said that Gomes should have scored a goal or two.
And the second half began. Neither manager made a change at half time. Niolskiaj had their first attack in the second half and it took them 50 seconds to take the lead again. One of their midfielders stepped up to place a long distance free-kick into the bottom right corner, securing Niolskiaj's 22nd goal during the tournament. The Sericans were awarded another long range free-kick on 61 minutes. The team's top scorer tried his luck and struck the ball almost identically to his succesfull attempt, however, the ball bobbled just wide of the right post.
Despite being one goal behind, Aquia kept going and threw everything into their attacking game. The ball was headed into space for Cougil who got into the right side of the box and played it across, but Bertoldo was unable to get a touch. The ball rolled to Pereira who got his shot past goalkeeper only to see it cleared at the last moment. At that point, the Aquian coach turned to his bench, bringing in Soares for Gomes in the 67th minute. Between that sub, Niolskiaj felt the urgency of the moment and began to raise its play.
The pressure finally told in the 72nd minute when once again, the Niol striker secured his hat trick and notched the third goal of the evening for his team. Niolskiaj kept the pressure on their opponents, looking to increase their advantage after increasing the lead to help them secure what would be a massive victory. Aquia could pull one back, Domingos striked right-footed with two minutes of added time remaining. After that, Soares could have reduced the size of the defeat but headed wide. The referee blew the final whistle. Niolskiaj set off to celebrate. Aquia departed for a painful inquisition.
Niolskiaj's national football team defeated Aquia, 3-1, in the 2018 FANA World Cup final, winning the first-ever gold in this tournament for the country. The Sericans were steady from the start to finish on their path to historic gold. Niolskiaj finished second in its group after beating Glaray and Sincuerello and losing to their latter final opponents from Aquia. In the playoffs, Niolskiaj beat Pohunskia 4-1 in the Round of 16, later beating Llort 6-1 in a one-sided game. The Niol team defeated Lidonia in the semi-finals by winning 3-1. As a team, Niolskiaj were without equal during this tournament. Prior to winning the tournament in 2018, Niolskiaj has never qualified for the World Cup before. They became the 4th different country to win the World Cup title.
CONGRATULATIONS NIOLSKIAJ!
KNOCKOUT STAGE:
SUMMARY:
Finally, a few words from me regarding the whole tournament. I wish to begin by expressing my warmest thanks to everyone who casted their vote for me and allowed Levalle to host this great event. Honestly, I am crazy about this kind of stuff and really hoped to win the bidding process. That is why I spent so much time on creating graphic design to make my application look as good as it is only possible. You cannot even imagine how proud I was after discovering that my concept was nominated for the SCF Year End Awards and finished on the second place in the best design category. I got to admit this was one of my highlights while being a part of the SCF community. Getting the opportunity of cooperating with the FSA Committee was another unbelievable moment for me which I am really grateful for! I put a lot of effort into delivering you daily match reports and everyhing was almost done in December, where the 2018 World Cup was supposed to finish. But of course, I decided to take a little break which turned out to be damn longer than it should have been. I apologize for the inconvenience. Hosting such a big event on my own was extremely challenging and time-consuming, but I am so glad that I could help the organizers with the competition from beginning to end. Anyway, I really hoped you enjoyed the whole tournament and found it exciting. Levalle was pleased to host you all and is eager to organise a similar event within the country in the future. See you soon at the 2019 FANA World Cup!
