DAY 9
Prunia will feel they have done enough to win two games at this World Cup. Yet they have won none. Defeat by Drevona was followed by this maddeningly frustrating 1-1 draw against Pohunskia. 2015 World Champions pressed for a victory that eluded them yet again. The first half was played at breakneck speed with several chances for both sides. Thomas Thorne got up above an uncertain Pohunskian defender to head just wide of goal from a deep cross. The deadlock was eventually broken from a set-piece as Blaha fired past a wrong-footed Maciness from 25 yards out in the 44th minute. Prunia got their leveller just after the hour mark as Vaughan's left-wing cross was tipped away by Callahan into the path of Walters, and the striker composed himself to drill into the net from 15 yards for the 100th goal of this tournament. Prunia had several chances to take the three points that would have put them in a healthier position before their final game against Ninelie. Pohunskia, is currently at the top of Group G with 4 points. They are playing against Drevona on Friday.
Niolskiaj breathed new life into their World Cup campaign after securing a 3-0 victory over Sincuerello in Tergå. Knowing anything but victory would make it difficult for them to qualify from Group H, it pulsed against their temples because everybody knew that Sincuerello were likely to be a tough nut to crack. The Niol team started the match brightly. After good work and battling down the left, they took an early advantage on 15 minutes. Niolskiaj were dominant and made it two on 63 minutes when the Sincuerellese kepper misjudged a corner. Sincuerello made a fist of things from that point, as they came close twice with headers on goal. Niolskiaj pulled firther clear with a third goal three minutes from time. One of their defenders headed home his first goal for the country. The result sees Niolskiaj catching up Sincuerello in the group, and they will now progress to the last 16 as long as they match Sincuerello's result - both in terms of points and goals scored - in the final group game.
Glaray managed to draw against Aquia in Lytte. That score keeps their slim hopes of reaching the World Cup knockout stage alive. It took just 3 minutes for Ricardo Mariano Bijos Gomes to show Glaray what they were missing as he peeled into space in the penalty area and applied a clinical finish to the Glaraian keeper from the right. Glaray returned from the break energised and nearly scored on three occasions early in the second period. They finally drew level on 52 minutes when Dos Santos turned the ball into his own net after Moschella's shot cannoned back off the post. And Glaray completed a remarkable turnaround one minute later, taking the lead for the first time thanks to Stabile's towering header. Glaray looked set to return to winning ways but Aquia had the final say with virtually the last kick, curling a stunning free-kick beyond their opponents' keeper to salvage a point. With just one point from their first two games, Glaraians have the most work to do in Group H. Aquia are currently leading their group with 4 points.
In this meeting of two of 2018 World Cup's surprise teams Drevona were four minutes away from etching their names into the history books as they pumped every muscle to protect a 1-0 lead. But as has become typical of this tournament, a late twist wrestled away the storyline. Drevona took the lead in Madevis. Their striker stepped up to take the penalty and, in front of the massed ranks of whistling Ninelien supporters, picked out the bottom corner as he sent their keeper the wrong way. Ninelie had upped their game and Drevona were clinging on. Just when Drevonans were beginning to genuinely threaten at last, Ninelie pounced. A fine ball over the top of the defence from Agriolo was met with the cleanest of strikes, a volley which flashed beyond a helpless Drevonan keeper. The result means that Drevona need just a draw from their final group game against Pohunskia to seal a place in the knockout stages, while Ninelie require a win against Prunia to keep their hopes about progression to the round of 16 alive.

DAY 10
Zylofonija's World Cup debut campaign ended without a victory as they played out a tame draw with Corzazjan in Frigg that allowed the Sakodan team to qualify to the knockout stage. The encounter started brightly yet it took until the 20 minute mark for the first real chance to come. After some good teamwork down the right from the Zylofonijan players, they found their striker inside the area but his weak-footed effort flew high over the bar. Corzazis were next to create a goal opportunity as they drilled a low cross in from the right, but the ball was just out of one of their player's reach as he slid goalwards. The referee’s half-time whistle brought an end to a docile 45 minutes as both teams headed down the tunnel with the score level at 0-0. The second half started in a slightly more exciting manner, both teams creating chances early on. Ten minutes from time Zylofonija should have taken the lead. Their substitute did brilliantly to find a low cross in from the left to his teammate who had a golden opportunity to find the net but screwed his effort wide from 10 yards. Despite numerous chances in the second half, Zylofonija were not able to find a goal to take them through to the next round.
Reigning champions - the United States of Eldance were sensationally knocked out of the World Cup by the Dýrian side that clinched a place in the last 16 with a pulsating 2-1 victory in a match full of incredible drama and tension. Having been held to disappointing results by Zylofonija and Corzazjan in their opening two Group B games, the Three Stars needed to win to guarantee progression to the next round. But they fell behind when Lendsen fired his team in front on 17 minutes after Germán Atwood had surrendered possession in a dangerous area. But Oscar pulled it back to 1-1 with twelve minutes remaining, leaving the Eldanca team needing to score again to claim three points that could have made them scrape through from Group B. Eldance's hopes of advancing were then seemingly extinguished once and for all when Dýria's substitute exploited defensive hesitation, running onto a throw-in before lifting the ball brilliantly beyond advancing goalkeeper David de Gea with one minute of normal time remaining. The win sees Dýria claim the top spot in their group. The 2018 World Cup will be remembered as a disaster for their opponents as they finished bottom in Group B having failed to qualify from the opening stage of the competition for the first time since 2015.
Demacia have qualifed for the knockout stages of the 2018 World Cup by defeating Shinkoyu 3-0 in Marleti. Shinkoyu may not have shown much intent against Levalle, but they were quickly onto the front foot against Demacia. However, with less than four minutes played, Demacian player Vasilis Iordanou reacted quickest and slammed into the net after their striker Filippos Stephanidis had struck the post with a fierce angled drive. Just when it looked as though the Shinkuánese players might have got off lightly at the interval, they condeded a second in the 41st minute. Halfway through the second period, the Latinican team missed a glorious chance. They played quickly shifted to the opposite penalty box, but their striker dragged his shot wide. Shinkoyu ultimately conceded a third goal seven minutes from time in a disappointingly similar fashion to how the opening goal has been scored. The victory gave the Demacian team first place in Group A and a berth into the Round of 16 at the 2018 World Cup. They will now play Corzazjan in Lytte on Saturday. Shinkoyu finished last in the group, earning a single point.
Levalle conceded a late goal to settle for a 1-1 draw with Hwaesonna in Hulluksio, enough to advance to the knockout stage of the 2018 World Cup. A lack of finishing in the first two matches prompted Hwaesonna coach to shake up his lineup infusing speed up front. Levalle capitalized on a scoring opportunity in open play sending 40,000 fans at Nytårio Park into a frenzy. Sigurd Sandvik came onto the ball and sent a left-footed strike low into the right side of the goal just by the Hwaesonnan goalkeeper. Levalle continued to dominate the play in the second half, having two chances to add on to their lead, but the shots were being sent high and then wide. Hwaesonna tried to use Levalle's forays to launch counter attacks, but could not get solid chances on goal. They finally broke their streak of bad luck aftering scoring their fourth goal of the tournament, this time with a clever header. The hosts of this year's World Cup moved into the knockout stage for the first time in their history. Levalle finished second with four points in Group A, one more than Hwaesonna and three ahead of Shinkoyu, who finished bottom. Hwaesonna will rue not having made the most of their chance to cause a World Cup sensation. But three draws from three matches and finishing third means the they travel back south from Hulluksio with both pride intact and reputation enhanced.

DAY 11
Fordia finished top of group D as they had inflicted Jarea's first defeat of the 2018 World Cup in Brodrik, winning 4-1. Fordia began the match strongly, and took the lead after 10 minutes. Pator's side continued their strong start and almost doubled the advantage twice in quick succession. Slowly but surely Jarea moved through the gears and on 26 minutes they forced the ball into the net when Tuan Unao had a shot on the turn which struck the base of the far post , but by the time Crino Gaston finally scrambled the ball home. The half drew to a close, but the Jareans held strong despite being under intense pressure. Fordia scored their second goal after 53 minutes. Their winger showed incredibly quick feet inside the penalty box to evade the challenges of the Jarean defence, before firing home a powerful effort from 18-yards. Jareans were more stable in the second half, although they should have scored more. Fordians continued to push forward after netting their third and scored a fourth almost immediately. Both sides have qualified for the last 16.
Wedse scored a dramatic 88th-minute winner to beat Wyvernbourne 1-0 and finish their 2018 World Cup campaign on a high in Braeden. Wedse will fly back home with a win – much to the delight of their substantial support, whose noise and colour has seemingly filled every town square and hotel lobby in this country for the past fortnight. Wyvernbourne are leaving Levalle too of course, having been eliminated last week by their opening two defeats. Wedse needed a win to have a chance to advance, but as it turned out, even victory would not have been enough for them as Fordia won against Jarea in the other group game to ensure they both advanced. The first half saw plenty of half-chances for both sides, with few major opportunities for Wedse. A sweeping counter attack from them almost brought a goal from Saiim Shologun’s low cross, but the Wyvish defender was able to get a foot in. The second half began with Wedse seeing most of the ball. They finally scored in the 88th minute. Wedse took all three points to finish third in the group, leaving Wyvernbourne without a single point.
Lidonia could not maintain their prolific start to the 2018 World Cup but still finished top of Group C following a 1-1 draw with Moly-Boronia which eliminates the team from Central Sakoda. Before the game started, Lidonia have already been assured of placing top in their group. Moly-Boronians had to win to secure progression to the knockout stages of the competition. Lidonia had the first goal attempt after five minutes when Jonas Turek’s shot was deflected wide for a corner but a player from Moly-Boronia was on hand to head clear. Moly-Boronian men had early opportunities, too, but it was somewhat against the run of play when they opened the scoring in the 27th minute. A shell-shocked Lidonia were rocked back on their heels. They scored an equaliser four minutes later through Hugo Madsen's fourth goal of the campaign, which nudged him to the top of this World Cup's scoring charts. The second half didn’t quite go according to the plan of Moly-Boronia. They struggled to make much impression and rarely looked like finding the goal required to secure safe passage to the next stage of the tournament. Lidonia will play against Jarea in Lytte on Saturday.
Flírskmasto squeezed into the World Cup last 16 after Vasili Akinfeev's two goals gave them a 2-0 win over Ydiwealth in Lytte. Needing a win to stand a chance of qualifying, Flírskmasto started the match brightly. They were second best to the team from Ydiwealth for much of the second half. After a lively opening Ruslan Akimotov squandered a golden opportunity in the 15th minute, clipping a tame effort over the onrushing Ydiwealth defender and wide of the post after latching onto poor headed pass. Early in a dramatic second half, one of the Ydiwealth defenders first gave away a needless corner before grappling with Gabulov from the resulting cross, with the referee going to VAR before awarding the spot-kick. Vasili Akinfeev duly converted, meaning his team were through as it stood. Ydiwealth created some chances in the second half but were unable to find the back of the net. Instead, in the 83rd minute, Akinfeev sidefooted in an easy goal to double the Flírsk lead to 2-0. They will now play Fordia in Madevis on Saturday, having finished second in Group C.
