MATCH DAY 20 The third quarter of Round of 16 games were held today in the Dýrcorian capitals of Dyflinnjaborg and Norfort. MATCH 93 Wedse (Lewis ) vs Niolskiaj (alexeh )2019 hosts Wedse took on former champions Niolskiaj in the Heimalands Völlur in Dyflinnjaborg today. Both teams have played their very best to make it up to this stage, and indeed one of them would have to be left behind. The enthusiasm from both the Wedsen and Niol fans in the stadium and across various bars in the city was high, and encouraged both teams to strive for perfection. The match kicked off with some good moves from Wedse, but Niolskiaj proved to be a tough opponent. So much so that Niolskiaj managed to score their first goal at the 19th minute of the match, which was worrying to Wedsen fans. This would ultimately kick off Niolskiaj's domination in this match, as the team managed to block goals from Wedse until the 62nd minute, when the Wedsen side finally got a goal. Undeterred, Niolskiaj managed to add 2 additional goals to their score and by the end of the match, the score was 3-1. Niolskiaj will advance to the quarter-finals, while sadly, Wedse's 2020 FANA World Cup journey comes to an end. MATCH 94 Freyhurst (ᴛᴏᴍ ᴋʟᴏsᴇʀ ) vs Zylofonija (basil ) Freyhurst faced off against Zylofonija in the Norfort Globus in Norfort. Freyhurst has proven to be quite the underdog in this competition, with many predicting that the country wouldn't advance further than the group stage, and certainly not further than the round of 32, but after a 6-4 victory against Namimori, they made their presence known. Zylofonija was hoping for a big win today, as they showed they are well capable of doing so after beating Lanovina by 5-2, much to the embarrassment of the hosts. Initially, the match was quite boring up until the 31st minute, when Zylofonija scored their first goal. However, just 10 minutes later, before half-time, Freyhurst scored their first goal. The second half was quite interesting with some close calls, but both sides managed to add another goal to their score. The match still wasn't decided after the time allotted, so the game went into penalties. This would prove to be a close call, but Zylofonija missed a penalty and thus Freyhurst were victorious. Freyhurst will face off against Niolskiaj, while Zylofonija is knocked out.

MATCH DAY 21 The last part of the Round of 16 matches were held today, as we stayed over in Dýrcoria for the last two matches. This time, the cities of Sjóborg and Hasbjerg hosted the 4 countries that participated in the two matches today. MATCH 95 Hansaaria (kacper) vs Jarea (Matt)The first match took place in Eivør Stadium in Sjóborg between newcomers Hansaaria and Jarea. The Hansaarian team managed to defy the odds against them, and managed to beat yet another strong opponent. The Jarean team started off by scoring an early goal but after that, the team was struggling against Hansaaria. Not long after the first Jarean goal, the team of Hansaaria managed to score their first goal as well, at the 28th minute. After their first goal, the team became unstoppable and they soon started scoring one goal after the other. By the end of the match, Hansaaria managed to score another 5 goals against the Jarean team, bringing the scores total 6 to 1 for Hansaaria. Therefore, Hansaaria will be advancing to the quarter-finals while Jarea is sadly eliminated from the World Cup. MATCH 96 Torlova (Alper) vs Evergreen (Eke)The second and last match of the day took place in Hasbjerg's Hasbjerg Stadion and it hosted the countries of Torlova and Evergreen. This was an unpredictable match, with several people predicting it to be one of the closest matches in the round of 16. And at the beginning it seemed like it was gonna be very close, as neither teams managed to score a goal in the first 25 minutes. That changed, when Torlova made a close call for a goal at the 27th minute, followed by an immediate goal on behalf of the Everish team at the 29th minute. The match remained at 1–0 for Evergreen at the end of the first half. The match resumed with the second half and it was once again very nerve-racking for the fans of both teams. Both countries had several chances at scoring but neither managed to do so. At the 70th minute, however, Evergreen managed to score their second goal and not long after, they scored their 3rd one as well, leaving the Torlovan team behind with 0 goals scored by the end of the match. With this being said, Evergreen also advanced to the quarter-finals while Torlova was eliminated this round.

MATCH DAY 22 Following the conclusion of the Round of 16, the World Cup took another day break for the remaining teams to get ready for the next round – the quarter-finals. Eight teams are closer to winning the World Cup. We stayed over in Dýrcoria once again for the first two matches of the quarter-finals. MATCH 97 Prunia (Blandine) vs Sincuerello (Jakub)With two group winners and strong competitors coming against in this match, the stakes were very high. Prunia and Sincuerello came head to head in the first quarter-final match in Hasbjerg Stadion in Hasbjerg in one of the most intense matches in this year's World Cup. The first half kicked off with no goal scored for neither teams, despite Prunia being close to scoring a few times. The second half, however, started with a more confident team for Sincuerello, who subsequently scored their first goal at the 51st minute. Prunia quickly tried to catch up, which they managed to do eventually not long after Sincuerello's goal, at the 60th minute. From then and on, things continued the way the started with neither teams scoring. As the match ended in a draw between the teams after the overtime, the match went to penalties. Prunia missed on their first two attempts, while Sincuerello scored on both. Prunia then went on to score on their next two attempts but it was not enough to catch up on Sincuerello, who also scored on the next two attempts, ending the penalties in 2–4 in favor of Sincuerello. MATCH 98 Drevona (Dominykas) vs Ximbala (Jmain)The second and last match of the quarter-finals for today took place in Eivør Stadium in Sjóborg. The teams coming against in this match were Drevona and Ximbala. With two group runner-ups coming against in this match, this was a tough match to predict as it could go either way. However, Drevona once again surprised and managed to secure their first goal very early in the game, scoring at the 8th minute. The next goal of the match came very late in the game, and it was from the Ximbalan team, who scored their first goal at the 55th minute. Following the overtime, the two teams also remained at draw and like the first match of the day, it went into penalty shots. In the first two attempts of both teams, only Drevona managed to score in their first one. The next goal came for Drevona once again in their third attempt, while Ximbala only managed to score their first goal in the fourth attempt, leaving the score at 2–1 for Drevona. In the last crucial round, Drevona managed to secure their ultimate 3rd goal which crowned them as the winners of the match.

MATCH DAY 23 The next two matches of the quarter-finals took place today in Arnheim and Cöhln. These two games would determine the last two qualifiers to the semi-finals. MATCH 99 Freyhurst (ᴛᴏᴍ ᴋʟᴏsᴇʀ ) vs Niolskiaj (alexeh )The penultimate quarter-final match took place today in the Arnheim International Park in Arnheim between recent powerhouse Freyhurst and former champions Niolskiaj. Going into this match, neither side were able to predict what was about to happen, but everything was at stake here and both teams gave it their all to secure a spot in the semi-finals.This match would prove to be quite exciting - as Freyhurst managed to take an early lead over Niolskiaj, getting their first goal at the 20th minute. This lead would be short-lived, as the Niol team managed to score their first goal at the 26th minute, levelling out the scores. Freyhurst managed to score their second goal at the 42nd minute. In the second half, Freyhurst scored a third goal at the 68th minute, while time was ticking for Niolskiaj to make a move. However, the game would ultimately become closer after the Niol team managed to surprise the Freyhurstians and score 2 additional goals, which would mean that the two would tie at the last minute. As neither team managed to gain a lead in overtime, the match went to penalties. Although close, Niolskiaj sadly missed a penalty against Freyhurst, which meant that Freyhurst got 3 penalties against their 2. This means that Niolskiaj is eliminated from the tournament. MATCH 100 Evergreen (Eke ) vs Hansaaria (kacper )The last match of the quarter-finals took place today in the Theinenergiestadion in Cöhln between Evergreen and debutants Hansaaria. Hansaaria has proven to be a strong opponent in recent rounds, as the country has managed to win every game up until now, despite only coming 3rd in the group stage. This is the second time that the two countries would face off, and Hansaaria was eager for revenge. The game kicked off with some good moves from both the Everish and Hansaarian sides, but no goals were scored until the 33rd minute, when Evergreen scored their first goal. Undeterred, Hansaaria bypassed the Everish defense and scored their first goal at the 41st minute. The second half started off quite boring, with neither team getting a goal, until Evergreen scored their 2nd goal at the 74th minute - only for Hansaaria to equalize the score at the 83rd minute. The game went into extra time, with neither team managing to score, and this would continue into overtime where despite some good moves from Evergreen, they didn't manage to score a 3rd goal and win. This meant that the match also went into penalties. Evergreen missed one penalty against Hansaaria, who had 4. After Evergreen missed a second time, the match was over. Evergreen is now eliminated from the tournament, while Hansaaria will play against Freyhurst in the semi-finals.

MATCH DAY 24 On the pre-last match day, the two semi finals took place in Sarindon and Dyflinnjaborg to determine the finalists. MATCH 101 Drevona (Dominykas) vs Sincuerello (Jakub)The first semi final was played in Lanovina's biggest city and former capital, Sarindon, between Drevona and Sincuerello. Due to the amazing free movement policies of the Northern Union, there was a bigger number of Drevonan fans in the Fantasistadion than fans of Sincuerello's team. The atmosphere was very tense, in a positive way, as both small nations were happy to make it this far and were hoping for a spot in the final. In a hard-fought match, no team managed to go in the lead until the end of extension time, resulting in penalty shooting. Eventually, Drevona came out as the winner and will therefore move on to the final round. Sincuerello will still participate in the game for the third place. MATCH 102 Hansaaria (kacper) vs Freyhurst (ᴛᴏᴍ ᴋʟᴏsᴇʀ)The last match before the final round, the second semi final, took place in Dyria's capital, Dyflinnjaborg. In a surprise to many, two debutants, Hansaaria and Freyhurst, made it this far over supposedly stronger countries. Nevertheless, they proved that they're a force to be reckoned with and both teams went into this match extremely motivated. The motivation was not reflected in the score, as this was yet another game where the teams failed to produce a result until the end of extension time, leading to yet another penalties session. That one wasn't close though! Hansaaria managed to qualify to the final, something that no one expected before to the cup. They will battle Drevona for the world champion title, while Freyhrust is going up against Sincuerello to determine a third place.

FINAL MATCH DAY Today was the very last match day of the 2020 FANA World Cup. Freyhurst and Sincuerello played the 3rd place match. MATCH 103 Freyhurst (ᴛᴏᴍ ᴋʟᴏsᴇʀ) vs Sincuerello (Jakub)The third place match was played in Norfort. Both teams only lost their semi finals due to bad luck in the penalties. Now it was time to find out who was better. Freyhurst won the match with 2-1 despite Sincuerello being the bookmarker's favorite. When the first goal was scored in the 31st minute Sincuerello's team already played significantly worse which led to the second goal in the 35th minute. The second half was shaped by numerous chances from Sincuerello's team but resulted in only one goal in the 78th minute. Thus Frehurst officially is the third place of the tournament. Congratulations! MATCH 104 (FINAL MATCH) Hansaaria (kacper) vs Drevona (Dominykas)Krono, Fordia - It is time for the very last match of the tournament which is also the most important one. We are about to find out who the 2020 champion of the FANA World Cup is. Two underdogs managed to get into the final match. Hansaaria started the tournament as one of the weakest teams according to the FANA World Ranking in Group J which had very strong opponents in it, Fordia, Evergreen and Flirskmasto. Their first match resulted in a 3-0 victory against Fordia, what probably increased the team's motivation immensely. In their remaining two group games they lost with 0-1 and 0-4 against Flirskmasto and Evergreen respectively. They however managed to qualify to the Round of 32 as the 7th best third place. From here every defeat means elimination. In a very exciting game against Lidonia, the world's second best team at that time, Hansaaria qualified with a 6-4 victory to the Round of 16. Here, they once again managed to defeat their opponent Jarea with 6-1. Now it was time to play against a country they already lost to this tournament. While Evergreen won with 4 goals against Hansaaria in the group stage, it now lost to Hansaaria on penalties. In the semi-final Hansaaria had to defeat Freyhurst, their weakest opponent in the tournament so far. Here they once again won on penalties. Their final opponent now is Drevona. Drevona wasn't a favourite at the beginning of the tournament. However, it proved that it was underrated as it won two of its group matches with 3-0, while one game, against Sincuerello was lost by just one goal. Thus Drevona had to play against one of the hosts, Decoria which they defeated with 4-1. Their next opponent was Hwaesonna which lost in the extra time by 0-1. The remaining games weren't really clear neither. In the quarter final they had to prove theirselves against Ximbala who played a sensational tournament too. After a very exciting game Drevona won penalties with 3-1. Just like Hansaaria, Drevona had to face their group's winner again in the semi-final and just like Hansaaria they only won after the penalties. Now both teams, which barely got attention at the beginning of the tournament are here to play for Fantasia's most important football title. Are you excited? The closing ceremony in Fordia kicked off right after the third place match ended. Astonavia welcomed 85,000 spectators from around the globe in Fordia's capital Krono. The majority of fans of course came from Fordia. Mainly because Drevona is one of Fordia's closest neighbours but also because Hansaaria defeated Fordia in the group stage with 3-0, the majority of Fordian fans supported Drevona today. Sofi Tukker and IMLÉ kicked off the ceremony with a calm mash-up of their songs which slowly developed to a real party banger. The spectators were now hyped for the game. Fordian president Frances Drosel quickly spoke a few words about the tournament and thanked everyone helped this tournament so great. The remaining host country leaders and the leaders of Drevona and Hansaaria were present too. It was time to play. It was time to find out who won the 2020 FANA World Cup. The game was kicked off by Drevona. After two very close attempts to score, Drevona finally scored their first goal in the 13th minute. Hansaaria continued to be motivated and scored two goal in the 25th and 32nd minute respectively. Halftime! Hansaaria is leading with 2-1 but Drevona came back stronger in the second half. Unfortunately, they didn't score until the 56th minute. The referee declared that goal as offside. Protest was spread by the Drevonan team and the referee demanded video evidence. The video referees declared the referee's decision as invalid, so it was now 2-2. After this mess, Drevona was even stronger and scored a third goal in the 72nd minute. Celebration among the Drevonan fans started but Hansaaria scored their third goal in the additional time of the game (90+2'). Extra time had to be played but both teams didn't score in this time. Once again, in this tournament, a penalty shootout was played.
Hansaaria started and scored. (1-0) Drevona scored too. (1-1) Hansaaria's turn and they scored. (2-1) Drevona now didn't score. (2-1) Hansaaria again scored. (3-1) Drevona again didn't score. (3-1)
Now Drevona had to score all remaining attempts and had to hope for Hansaaria to not score in order to win.
Hansaaria didn't score. (3-1) Drevona didn't score. (3-1)
That means Hansaaria won the penalty shootout and therefore is THE WINNER OF THE 2020 FANA WORLD CUP!
Congratulations! We (Astonavia) would like to thank everyone for their interest in this year's world cup. It definitely was fun to organize this. It also helped to improve the cup in the future. Congratulations to kacper for winning it despite being completely new. Thank Dicecord who made your victory possible but defeating Fordia wasn't funny. Live reaction of the Hansaarian coach:
"We made it! After long weeks of trainings, our dreams came true - we achieved the very best that we could - we won the FANA World Cup. (on our debut!) Its a huge success for our newly created team. The final match was insane, hopefully the football fans all around Fantasia enjoyed it. Both teams did great and it was a very very unexpected win as Drevona is a tough opponent (just like we saw in the previous matches) Thanks to Astonavia for organizing this amazing event and a big thank you to everyone who made our participation possible!"
~ Mattias Stapäen (coach of the Hansaarian football team).
