 ASTONAVIA 2020 BEGINS! The 2020 FANA World Cup in Astonavia has finally begun. The first match between Dýria and  De Vremdspongeln which is being held in the Heimalands Völlur, located in Dyflinnjaborg, the Dýrian capital, would mark the beginning of the biggest annual sporting event in Fantasia. The opening ceremony was held in the stadium with a capacity of 35,322 fans.
Many high-level figures attended the opening ceremony and indeed the opening match between Dýria and De Vremdspongeln. Among these, the president of Dýria, Ingibjörg Egilsdóttir, Taoiseach Sinéad Kýosdóttir, and the presidents of Decoria (Lasse Carlssen), Fordia (Frances Drosel), and Lanovina (Björn Tolmsken). Other notable guests were present, such as Nene Leakes (are we surprised?)
The ceremony took place just a few before the opening game. The ceremony included performances from Tove Lo, Kimbra, Tal and speeches from the 4 leaders of the 4 host nations. Of the notable performances, SOFI TUKKER performed their song "Playa Grande“ featuring Bomba Estéreo, which was chosen as the official 2020 FANA World Cup song.
To kick off the World Cup officially, President Egilsdóttir made a speech in front of the audience, welcoming everyone to Astonavia, and congratulating every team that has made it to the event:
Today will officially mark the beginning of the biggest annual sporting event in the entire world, right here from Heimalands Völlur in Dyflinnjaborg. As president of Dýria, I am extremely excited and honoured to welcome you all to Astonavia for the first time as a collective. I congratulate all 48 teams that have made it this far and that have qualified to the event.
The leaders of Decoria, Fordia and Lanovina also exchanged words on the impact of Astonavia 2020 on their countries, with all 3 agreeing that it was a huge feat to co-host the event and shows the strong bond and cooperation between all 4 countries.
After the 4 leaders formally finished their speeches, the FANA World Cup 2020 could officially begin with the opening match between Dýria and De Vremdspongeln.
THE OPENING MATCH - DAY 1 Dýria (Dylan ) vs De Vremdspongeln (Levi21 )
Despite an early goal from the Vremd side in the first half of the match, and thus taking an early lead in the match, this feat was not to be as the hosts this evening surprised their opponents by coming back much stronger and undeterred in the Heimalands Völlur, knocking out 6 goals by the end of the match, much to the surprise of both Dýrian and Vremd fans in the stadium. Just close to the final whistle, Dýria had scored her sixth goal and ultimately sealed her first victory of the tournament, and on home soil as well. MATCH DAY 2 After the opening match last night which resulted in an impressive victory for one of the host countries, Dýria, winning 6-1 against De Vremdspongeln, match day 2 saw another match from Group A, while Group B and Group C matches officially began. All matches were held in one of the 4 Dýrian host cities today.
MATCH 2 Aquia (Aless ) vs Dorma (fuerte (inactive) )
The next match from group A saw the reigning champions Aquia take on newcomers Dorma in their very first FANA appearance, in the Stadion Naonedad in Naoned. This match would prove to be unsuccessful for the debutants, as the reigning champions managed to score 4-0 by the end of extra time, despite some good moves and enthusiasm from the Dorma fans in the arena. Although a bigger win was predicted by some betting agencies, i.e. Aquia getting 6-0 against Dorma, the world champions proved that they are a force to be reckoned with as they secure their first win of the tournament.
MATCH 3 Ximbala (Jmain ) vs Levalle (𝐌𝐈𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐋 )
Another debutant, Ximbala, took on former FANA hosts Levalle in Eivør Stadium in Sjóborg. Prior to this game, the winner was still unsure - as Ximbala has never appeared in the FANA World Cup beforehand, so Levallese fans didn't know what to expect. However, it appears that the Ximbalan side is also a force to be reckoned with - despite many attempts from Levalle to secure at least one goal, the Ximbalans did not allow this, and instead got their own against the former FANA hosts - a promising start for the debuting country.
MATCH 4 Hikyoto (Euu ) vs Prunia (Blandine )
Hikyoto also got their chance to play in the FANA World Cup for the first time, with their first match being against Prunia in Staid na Saoirse in Tráway. Much like Ximbala, the Prunian fans had no idea what to expect from Hikyoto, however the team pulled through and managed to score 3 goals against Hikyoto, a good start for the Wulfor nation.
MATCH 5 Scandavia (Daniel ) vs Juliana (agni ) The first match of Group C took place in Staid na Saoirse today between Scandavia and Juliana. Despite some close calls where either side would almost score a goal, the match turned out to be a draw by the end of extra time. Neither team were able to break through in the match, with fans from both sides expecting either a close match or a big finish.
MATCH 6 Sirenforest (✨ Forrest ✨ ) vs Alchten (Lars )
Today was also Alchten's first ever FANA World Cup game, played against Sirenforest in Naoned. Much like with Scandavia vs Juliana, the game ended in a draw with both teams scoring 1 goal each, Alchten being the first one to score. With this match being a draw, this means all matches in Group C today ended in a draw, and fans will be watching carefully the next time to see if their country will make it through in the end. |

Reaction of Prunian coach Noah Sierras« This was the right way to start the tournament. My players followed the recommendations made and I'm very proud of them. However, this is only the beginning. We are on the right track but we have to stay focused in order to go further. We know that each game always gets tougher in a World Cup, and we have to prepare carefully for our next games against Levalle, which we already know well for its qualities, and Ximbala, which made a very huge impression today. » |

MATCH DAY 3 Following the conclusion of the first two matches from Dýria's groups, the groups stage continued with 3rd match day and the first two matches of the groups D to F. Just like the first 3 groups, all of the matches took place in one of the host countries, this time being Decoria.
MATCH 7 Decoria (Dimitris) vs. Neocastria (Holland)
The first match from Group D saw one of the host countries Decoria against one of the newcomers to the World Cup, Neocastria. Taking place in Decoria's capital city in the Norfort Globus, the match was an easy one for the hosts, managing to defeat the Neocastrian team. Despite the several close calls on the side of Neocastria, the match ended in a 4 to 0 in favor of the host country.
MATCH 8 Llort (MaRtIn) vs. Kazkya (Argüello) Group D continues with the second match taking place in Bjørnskov Stadion in Gladsaxe. In this match, Llort came up against Kazkya, in probably one of the toughest matches so far. Despite neither teams managing to score at the first half, Llort managed to come on top by the end and defeat the Kazkyan team in a 2–0.
MATCH 9 Hwaesonna (Syr) vs. Yeukiwan (мιɴтιѕѕe) Hwaesonna kicked off the matches for Group E with a match against another World Cup newcomers, Yeukiwan. The match took place in Hasbjerg's Hasbjerg Stadion, and despite the challenge the newcomers put up for Hwaesonna, the team eventually managed to win in an outstanding 6–1 against Yeukiwan.
MATCH 10 Vacansa (Ｂ３ＳＴＢＥＡＴＳ) vs. Ninelie (Wysteria) Continuing with the second match of Group E taking place in the DIA Arena in Lillebøl. In this match we had Vacansa coming up against Ninelie. Even though the Nineliese team quickily managed to score 2 goals and take the lead at the first minutes against Vacansa's 1 goal, the Vacansan team shockingly managed to defeat them eventually in a clear 6–2, marking the second biggest victory of the World Cup so far.
MATCH 11 Qasentria (Chante™) vs. Drevona (Dominykas) Returning to Gladsaxe and Bjørnskov Stadion for the first of the two Group F matches today, where Qasentria faced Drevona. The Drevonan team struggled at first but eventually managed to score 3 goals, leaving the Qasentrian team behind with no goals scored.
MATCH 12 Kalimann (Francisco) vs. Sincuerello (Ｊａｋｕｂ) Newcomers Kalimann took on Sincuerello in the second match of Group F, which took place in DIA Arena, Lillebøl. With Kalimann being another debutant in the World Cup, the Sincuerellese team did not know what to expect from the newcomers. Eventually, the latter managed to defeat the Vacansan team, with a 4–0 score. With the conclusion of this match, this meant that every match of Group F had the losing team score no goals against the winners.

MATCH DAY 4 Third in line to host games is Lanovina, where the first two games of Groups G, H and I took place today.
MATCH 13 Lanovina (Julian) vs. Temilosk (.)
Group G's games were kicked off by a landslide victory of the host country, Lanovina. Even though the country is not known for its amazing football performances, newcomer Temilosk proved to not be a big hurdle, as the host team already scored its first two goals within the first 10 minutes. The audience in Lanovina's biggest stadium, located in Sarindon, was dominated by Lanovians, who obviously enjoyed seeing their country win. Some pessimistic fans claim, that this might be the only win Lanovina will achieve this year.
MATCH 14 Moly-Boronia (Queen of Mean (Inactive)) vs.  Lakadamia (Luiri) Group G's 2nd game was hosted in Remmstett and had two strong teams go up against each other. And indeed, this game might have been the most exciting one yet. Just after Moly-Boronia scored it's 1st, 2nd and 3rd goal, Lakadamia scored shortly after as well. Each team will get 1 point from this game, as they ended it with a tie.
MATCH 15 Jarea (Matt) vs. Namimori (Kinoshita!) Playing in Lanovina's capital, Jarea and Namimori went up against each other in Group H's first game. Similar to the previous game, both participants were seen as strong competitors. Namimori eventually managed to take home 3 points, as they beat Jarea 1-3.
MATCH 16 Glacea (Lᴇꜰ) vs. Shkeera (Oisín) The 2nd game of Group H, hosted in the  NU's de facto capital Ostmont, turned out to be a massive fad. Glacea and newcomers Shkeera scored their respective goal relatively early. Afterwards, neither team managed to come close to scoring again. They will both take home 1 point.
MATCH 17 Lidonia (Matilda) vs. Gasandae (Jacob) We move on to the last group hosted in Lanovina, Group I. Lidonia was the hot favorite going into its first game against newcomer Gasandae. While they did end up as winners, Gasandae actually managed to score a goal and Lidonia "only" won with 2-1. Either way, it still takes away the expected 3 points.
MATCH 18 Pohunskia (Logan) vs. Zylofonija (basil) The last game of the day, Group I's 2nd game, turned out to be wild. Going into the extension time, Zylofonija's team lead 0-2, an almost near-certain victory. After a game riddled with fouls, the stoppage time turned out to be 5 whole minutes, in which Pohunskia scored 2 goals, making the game end in a tie.

MATCH DAY 6 We now return to Dýria where matches from Group A-C continue across the 4 host cities in the country.
MATCH 25 Dýria (Dylan ) vs Aquia (Aless )
The next match from group A saw one of the hosts, Dýria, take on reigning champions Aquia in the Heimalands Völlur in Dyflinnjaborg. Both teams managed to win their matches against De Vremdspongeln and  Dorma previously with huge margins. However, despite winning 6-1 in the opening match, the hosts were not able to replicate this result against the stronger Aquian team. In the end, Dýria only scored 1 goal, while Aquia continues to dominate the group by winning yet another match, this time with 4 goals once again.
MATCH 26 De Vremdspongeln (Levi21 ) vs Dorma (fuerte (inactive) )
After a rocky start in the FANA World Cup, De Vremdspongeln faces off against debutants Dorma in the Stadion Naonedad in Naoned. The Vremd fans had no idea what to expect from this match given their first match did not go so smoothly, however the Vremd team managed to pull through against Dorma, scoring a goal just before half-time, despite some close calls from Dorma too, in which the team almost scored a goal around the 80th minute, but this was not to be in the end. After today's fixtures, Aquia stays on top in Group A with 6 points, while Dýria stays in 2nd with 3 points.
MATCH 27 Ximbala (Jmain ) vs Hikyoto (Euu )
Two debuting teams in the FANA World Cup faced off today in Eivør Stadium in Sjóborg. After a strong start for Ximbala, fans were wondering if their team could pull off another victory against Hikyoto who had a rocky start against Prunia in their first ever match. Just like their match against Levalle, Ximbala proved that they are a tough bunch to beat, as despite an early lead from Hikyoto, who in turn scored their first ever goal in a FANA event, were beaten by the Ximbalans by the end of the game, meaning that Ximbala soars ahead in their group's rankings.
MATCH 28 Levalle (𝐌𝐈𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐋 ) vs Prunia (Blandine ) Another match from Group B took place today, this time Levalle and Prunia faced off in Staid na Saoirse in Tráway. After a disappointing start for Levalle, Levallese fans were hoping for a win against Prunia, as it would help them go further in the group, given that Prunia already won their first match against Hikyoto. Despite some close calls from both sides, including a missed goal by the Prunian side around the 75th minute, neither team were able to score a goal and thus the match ended in a draw. With this result, Ximbala currently leads group B with 6 points, Prunia is in 2nd with 4 points, while Levalle is on 3rd place with 1 point.
MATCH 29 Scandavia (Daniel ) vs Sirenforest (✨ Forrest ✨ )
Scandavia took on Sirenforest in Tráway as well today. Both countries drew in their first matches against Juliana and Alchten respectively last week, however it was Sirenforest who pulled ahead today and managed to win 3-0 against Scandavia. Both teams gave their all, however the Scandavians were not able to score against their Sirenforestian counterparts, even with some close calls as well.
MATCH 30 Juliana (agni ) vs Alchten (Lars ) The two island nations of Juliana and Alchten faced off in Naoned. After an early goal around the 26th minute for Alchten, Juliana fought back and proved their strength as they managed to score 5 goals against Alchten, an impressive feat from the island nation that previously tied 0-0 to Scandavia in their first match. The Julianoise fans in the stadium were gobsmacked with the result, not believing their country would be capable of such a feat, with the news even reaching home and to president Gemma Collins. On the Alchten side, fans were also impressed with their team's performance, although looking at the scores as of now, Juliana leads Group C with 4 points, alongside Sirenforest, while Scandavia and Alchten both have 1 point each. |
